I might be an oldie on here but did you know that you were meant to tell the taxman how much you got in tips? Think the rules might have changed by now?

I remember when Nigel Lawson was Chancellor. He was going to tax posties £50 on what he assumed the Christmas tips were. This was about 1982. The union complained that most postmen/women didn't get anything like enough tips to pay £50 tax on them. Lawson disagreed and said they did. The Daily Mirror found the woman who delivered his post and it turned out he never, ever tipped her.

Don't get any xmas tips working in 'callers', only thing we get is abuse off the public.
I work SA in our callers office on a regular basis (every day during the xmas pressure) and those that collect their mail and packets regularly, bring boxes and tins of chocolates and packets of biscuits to the office.

As for on my delivery, last year was just over £500 and several bottles of whisky (my punters are starting to get to know me too well). :crazy:

Thats really amusing! It was only later that company cars were taxed - come to think of it those who use their cars for RM better watch out.

am a fellow terrier exiled further north,our sections do give a fifth to their day off covers which i think is spot on,but in our rural area our kid(fellow worker) really does buy bread,take newspapers and change old ladies lightbulbs!

In an ideal world everybody would pool all their tips into one pot and split it evenly throughout the office (obviously the managers get nowt). At the end of the day every single worker is responsible in some way for ever single letter getting to each house, so in reality we all deserve it, walk holder, rota man or leave reserve.

Man I think i'm turning Commie.....

Reserves or rotation men should be doing D2D's, 20% a day, there's nothing worse than having a week off and coming back to find the reserve has'nt touched them but the boss expects me to do2 lots, lazy reserves!!
As for tips, It as my second xmas on this walk and I got over 250 quid, during the year I have had letters praising me and have had a few tips thru the year too, someone even gave me a lawn mower, good quality one as well.
I'm not trying to boast here, my point is that every day the vast majority of us do our best, we build up a good relationship with our customers and we work hard to please only to have these 2 clowns try and destroy it all.
