Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Since Wednesday things have gone downhill. My walk (rural) has got heavier everyday. Today was collosal. The second heaviest I remember packet/parcel wise. Hope it calms down before christmas

What a day today, post for nearly every house...............I'm sure the person doing the OT was happy, at least it made up his wages.

Rammed with mail on Friday but only 1 packet bag. Saturday it was easier for mail. Packets were through the roof. Staff shortages still causing a few problems. Quite a few in on days off and earlier starts on ot. Not much sign of that changing for now.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Have spent most of the day alternating between dragging myself around the house, and sitting in bed playing FIFA. The swelling on my leg has gone down a bit (although I might be imagining it) but I feel pretty nasty. I'm taking 1800mg of ibuprofen a day on doctor's advice, even though the pharmacist and I both agreed that it was a lot, and directly contravenes the instructions on the box. I'm also prescribed omeprazole to stop the massive dose of ibuprofen from wrecking my stomach.

Worst Tuesday I've done a long time, got assistance with >25% of the walk and still went over by >1 hour. Two days of packets did not help, surprisingly.

Watched Prometheus. Crap.
Back at the doctors Thursday. Knee is no better, possibly worse. Am not convinced it's only tendonitis. Would quite like some kind of scan. Will probably spend the whole appointment crying at the doctor until I get what I want. I'm like that.
Supposed to be back at work on Saturday. I suspect that may be up in the air. I doubt any doctor's going to send me in to work on 1800mg of ibuprofen and a dose of omeprazole that leaves me pretty much constantly on edge and under the weather. Until my prescription is up I doubt I'll be able to work, that's presuming my knee is anywhere near improved. Have done nothing for four days now and no improvement has been noticed.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Only been doing the job for a few weeks and yesterday encountered my first complaint from a customer and, after a few very good days, it has knocked me back
Today I am just dwelling on it. Some plastic LED lights and small fittings in a box were in a coloured plastic bag (about the size and shape of a DVD case) and I put it through the letterbox as it easily fitted. There is a communual letterbox but as I had access I put it through his own letterbox. Five minutes later he appeared in the road and started complaining that it was broken. He said I had thrown the envleope through the letterbox - no idea how I am supposed to have done that! Also said that I should have knocked or left it by his door or in the hallway - I apologised and could do no more than that, adding that I had no idea what was in the envelope. To me it only looked like the box was broken anyway, not the contents.
IMHO there was a total lack of packaging (the same day I had post at home, an A5 booklet that came in a jiffy bag with bubble wrap) and I have no idea what he expected me to do. He said he'd go to the delivery office to complain, so I prewarned a manager, but by the time I finished 2 hours later I'd heard no more about it. A big shame as I had been getting on really well and yesterday was a very light load for me, now I almost dread going in tomorrow.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
fb1969 - mate mate mate dont be fretting, the bloke is being a dick.
1- His idea about leaving a parcel by a door is the best way to get you down the road with a p45 in your back pocket.
2- He is a dick
3- If it fits through the letterbox it is fair game to go through the letter box.
4- I would (and have in the past) told the manager as well. It sounds to me you did everything by the book.
5-Remember it is RM that pay your wages not the recipient of the mail, dont use their rule book use RM's rule book.
6-He's a dick
7- I can see why it's upset you, its not nice having a confrontation, but honestly truthfully it does get like water off a ducks back.
8- As for it breaking
how are we supposed to know what is in a packet and what affect it being dropped from their lettebox to their floor will have - non of our business. (good shot by the way managing to throw it through the letterbox)
9- please refer to points 6 and 2.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
FNG has it spot on.
The only thing I would add is that its the senders responsibility to package it correctly. If it cant survive a 3 ft fall from a letter box then then thats not your fault, would this customer want you to knock for every letter just in case it was fragile - no of course not. If its fragile then the sender should take precautions.
Royal Mail even give them a guide to packaging - bet the sender didn't follow it http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/mail- ... nd-packing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Thanks both. I am only part time on a short contract (isn't everyone "new" on those terms) after 11 months unemployed and the first couple of weeks had been tough but things were going ok recently. I actually rang one of the managers just after it happened and he just said about telling the cloke how to claim if he went in. Then I saw my workplace coach and he said that if he saw the bloke he'd ask to see the rest of the packaging, knowing there wasn't any! It was literally a grey plastic bag of the type I've delivered before that probably had socks or similar in - no protection at all. I don't even know what else he expected me to do other than apologise and point him the direction of making a complaint. He asked my name (I haven't got an ID card) and I regret including my surname now, though I don't know what he can do about it.
Its given me a very flat feeling on my day off today, but part of me just wants to get back out there and do it. As I said, there is a communual letterbox as well as individual ones so maybe from now on I'll find that the 'trade' button has timed out when I get there
Points 2 and 6 duly noted

For future reference the correct response to a request for your name is:fb1969 wrote: He asked my name (I haven't got an ID card) and I regret including my surname now, though I don't know what he can do about it.
