Welcome Aaron. What type of postie are you, if your a walker you should have a coach, otherwise don't' worry first few days are the hardest and then you get to know the walk and will then bundle it up the way you prefer. Stick at it and listen to the old timers it is a pretty good job all said and done.

Welcome Aaron mate... Can i say that your 1st post and Q: Of "finishing earlyer" Is a Q that should be worked out for urself..
Im not being nasty here Aaron but if you look around this site and read a few posts by us Old gits. As TBT showed you HE is... :Very Happy Then your see for your self that "finishing early" Is a bit of a mute point, as Posties all over the country now will be(HOPEFULLY) Working to there 318's (Check this out with your walk frame) I take it your a Walker by the Q u ask.???
In my view you will learn your own ways, tricks n good /bad ways of working.. I used to Train new Entrants. Hope as TBT SAID "you should have a coach." This WAS the way you learn a walk, But after a few weeks U should be aware that your DOM/LINEO Might move you to another walk/job.. So think on your feet mate as THEY might try to shape you or see how you act under pressure and if you will
"TAKE SHITE" or will speak up and be heard??? Try and be urself Aaron. Im not being up my own arse its just i know it must be VERY HARD to join now!!! Its doublely hard as there will be A Walk out. In my view.. THE SCREWS/ Management. Will try and push you and your contract as a bartering tool.. Like,,, "DO THIS WALK OR OVER TIME AND THE JOB IS YOURS MATE." This does happen!!!!!

Dont think that ALL screws are like this but most are!!!! DONT TRUST ANYBODY MATE UNTIL YOU KNOW THEM WELL...

The only advice i stress VERY MUCH SO IS JOIN THE CWU... If The Union REP DONT come to see you about joining then IF you want, ASK!!!! ASK ANY MEMBER TO GIVE YOU THE NUMBER OF THE LOCAL REP.. In my view GET PROTECTION IN NUMBERS AND GOOD PEOPLE AROUND YOU... Sorry to be down with you but this is the way the business is going now... FACT!!! Welcome and get stuck in mate, GOOD SHOES NEEDED!! FEET WILL BLISTER!! TAKE NO SHITE!! WEIGH YOUR BAGS!! GET ON THE VANS!! WORK TO YOUR 318!!!

AND GOOD LUCK MY SON!!! :Applause :dance :dance :dance :Applause

OUT

DONT LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YA DOWN!!!! :wave

Thanks! Yeah I walk.

Yeah I've had someone show me the walk and help me out for the past 3 days, he has been really awesome. Learnt so much more from him then I did on the induction/training course.

My first day alone is this Monday, and I'm worried about everyone on my team waiting for me to finish my round.. because I'm going to be slow.

IF THEY HAVE ANYTHING ABOUT THEM THEY SHOULD HELP YOU IF NOT ASK YOUR BOSS FOR SOMEONE TO GIVE YOU A BOOST WITH THE PREP TILL YOU GET TO GRIPS WITH IT,YOUR BOSS IS IN THEORY THERE TO HELP YOU,PREP IS USUALLY THE STICKING POINT ONCE YOUR OUT IT IS ALL ABOUT USING YOUR HEAD
GOOD LUCK,HOW MANY HOURS CONTRACT DID YOU GET AND HOW DID YOU FIND THIS SITE SO FAST

Hello there Aaron.

Do not worry about how long it takes you to complete a walk.

I have done every single walk in my delivery office and can tell you that if you do them properly, by the rules, none of them can be completed within the three and a half hours allowed -- it is impossible. More and more people are now working to their time -- that is to say the hours stated in their contract. I do this, and recommend it for a more stress free working life. You don't spend all your time rushing and feeling resentful about it, or cutting corners that could get you into trouble.

As one old union rep told me when I started, it says above them fittings walk not run. As a new starter you probably don't want to make any waves and if others in the office are all getting their walks done, you won't want to be the odd one out. I perfectly understand this. But, if you do go over on your walk, you should claim every penny you are entitled to in overtime. Remember that overtime is a favour that you are doing for them -- not the other way around.

You will naturally get quicker both at prep and delivery. In the meantime, while you are learning, it's the gaffer's problem. You just enjoy doing the job. Good luck.

Im disturbed by your comments of "IM WORRIED BOUT EVERYBODY ON MY TEAM." Are you working to a team working style???

Is this way of working new and if so has this been agreed by local and area reps and voted on???? Im sorry to throw Q's at you so soon but this is part of the strike action we are being asked about right now!!!! If they (screws RM. ) ask you to work like this then i Q what is going on in your office and how they will treat you??? As asked before,, what length contract HRS worked are you on??? and how long contract lasts for??? What ever the time is DONT LET THEM WALK ALL OVER YOU MATE!!!! AND GOOD LUCK N JUST ASK IF YOU DONT KNOW!! Just hope u dont meet someone like me in your office that wineds you up!!!! Your 1st 2 years are the worst!! then the rest is a bastard!!!!!!!

We have work teams I think they are called. You do your prep, then everyone on your teams goes out in a van to the routes. So the van can't leave the office until everyone has completed sorting and it can't leave to go back to the office till everyone has done their round. I'm going to be the last person in both cases.

I got told today that the 'door to door' mail has to be sorted onto the frame during your own time?
