If it's the graduate scheme in HR then to be honest I don't think you'll be involved in the disputes as described by Tman, that would tend to be local operational management which if I understand correctly you'll be a few degrees away from (unless we go on strike that is).
To be honest I wish Ops Managers did have some HR training it would certainly help dispel the them and us culture. It would help them learn to lead as well as manage, but more importantly they would have a happier and more committed staff and management in operations. As least they would be talking and passing opinions based on knowledge and training rather than guess-work and chinese whispers.
My advice is if its operational based then avoid it if you can get a placing at a modern and dynamic company. If however, it's going to be HR based then go for it but be prepared for mostly policy work and very little practical application. You may be advising Union reps and managers on some level, but I don't think you would be working in an Operational environment unless they want you to get an overall picture. I think we need change in RM and if you have an open mind but can play politics well then RM could be a good career move.
