Special delivery card mystery

Whilst I was away on holiday a red card was delivered on the 24th to say a special delivery item was waiting for collection at the delivery office as it needed a signtaure.
On my return from holiday I went to pick iu up only to be told it had been collected and signed for on the 30th - even though we were still on holiday??
I have phoned customer services and they have sent me a scan of the signature which is not mine.
They admitted it was odd but have no explanation so are looking into it. This could take up to 10 days but in the meantime I'm quite anxious about it - how can someone, without the red card or ID pick up my item??

Unless this has been a serious cock-up by the enquiry office, I dont see how it could have happened. I know my office are quite strict regarding the address of the ID and the item they wish to collect.

Could a neighbour/family member, who may have had access, possibly collected it and forgotten about it?

No, no-one else had access to the card or house which makes it so strange. To be honest I don't mind about the cock up I'm just concerned it's an important document as it was an A4 envelope. Now there's no way of finding out! Maddening!

You dont know what it is that has been sent? Its a little strange why they sent it Special Delivery. These cost £6+-ish and are usually only used when its specifically asked for.

Unless the person that collected it had the red 'Something for you' card that was left when delivery was attempted, they should not have been able to collect the item. That really is the bottom line. No matter if they had 100 items of ID, without that card that was left, it should not have been collected.

My take is it was carded to the wrong address and the rightful recipient got it

Sorry what does 'carded to the wrong address'? Just that the postie just put the wrong address on the card? How would the rightful recipient have then received it?

Sorry what does 'carded to the wrong address'? Just that the postie just put the wrong address on the card? How would the rightful recipient have then received it?
Either way I hope you're right!

If you weren't expecting anything then it's possible that the postie just made a mistake and put the card through your door by mistake and they then put a card through the right door, they must have been unable to retrieve the card from your address because you've been away (although they should have put another card through telling you to ignore the first card ).

I've written the wrong name and address on a P739 before but not posted it, we can all make stupid mistakes but it does seem that the person wasn't expecting a SD and that should be ringing alarms for them.
