Hello from a new employee...and a couple questions!

Post by babygiraffe »

Hi, nice to meet you all :D I have been hired by Royal Mail and agreed my start date for next thursday...however they are sending me for an induction day in Motherwell on the Wednesday...I did explain to the woman from Angard that despite my postcode indicating proximity to Motherwell I am in fact about 150 miles away but she was less than helpful...getting up there isn't a problem as I have a friend to stay with in Motherwell but my questions are...

1. How long roughly does the induction day take? I have to be back in Glasgow to make my 6pm bus (which involves probably an hours travel) as they are expecting me to start work in my actual office on the Thursday...Can I request to be let away early if I'm not going to make my bus? I don't really want to spend two nights away anyway.
2. Will they pay my travel expenses? I have to take two buses and two trains and probably multiple taxis.

Sorry for the long post! Thanks in advance for any advice...

1:One of our guys recently posted...
Its been over a year since I took part in the induction, but on mine i think it started at 9 or 10amish and lasted until 3 or 4 0clock.
The content was all pretty tedious really. We just had to listen to a few royal mail video clips about what to do and what not to do in terms of mail, van security etc. We also had to lift a sack that weighted 5 or 6 kg, which was more about the lifting technique rather than can you lift it or not.
2:Not 100% but i don't think they do.

And Angard less than helpful,no s**t.

Oh and good luck and welcome.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thank you :) And yes I have found the Angard process quite stressful!

Thank you Kirsty, it went very well, been on the job 3 days now, I have my own walk, which is a good one and not too complicated, I have been told the job is mine for as long as I want it, and although I am sore all over and knackered I am enjoying it! (oh and I got out of my induction on time to get home :nana ) :)
