A question about mail boxes for postman

If i bought my own mail box and put it outside my house, and ask the postman to put all items in there, will they be allowed to?

because i get a lot of items that dont fit through my post box and am not always in.

Shouldn't be a problem. I have got customers that have boxes that lock once I have put there parcels in. Perhaps call customer services so the manager of the division to your area can leave a card or whatever for which ever postie covers that job and for the cover.

If it's the American style mail box at the end of your drive / path beware that mail in it is not secure.
If it's an ex Royal Mail box check it's not stolen and paint it other than red so the public don't put their mail in it.
Two houses on my round have large boxes with the key left in the door, me putting parcel in box, locking it and then key though normal letterbox, so parcels are properly secure.
Others just leave the bar door unlocked so parcels left on the kitchen table.

As long as it's secure then just tell him to use that when you see him, this will become your official address point.

No.if you are not in he should leave you a card informing you that a signed for item is being held at the delivery office.

Absolutely not. One of my colleagues with 39 years service on the clock was sacked last month for delivering a priority item and signing for it on the recipient's behalf. He's currently going through the appeal process, but I honestly don't think we'll see him back. Absolutely refuse to countenance any such requests, which will only result in you putting your job on the line if you comply....the sender pays a premium for these services in order to have the addressee's signature adorning your PDA/EPOD card, not yours, and any plea that you were simply doing the recipient a "favour" because they weren't at home will cut no ice whatsoever with Royal Mail if you get caught out.

The only case I am aware of where it is acceptable to sign yourself is the cards from Buckingham Palace
