Sounds like you know who I am talking about Cinemasaint, you have a story to share?cinemasaint wrote:Ando37 wrote:I go on holiday tomorrow morning and arranged for a colleague to work my day off for me with me paying him for it. This was the following conversation with my manager today...
'How much you paying Stevie?'
'Thats between us'. I replied.
'You paying him for the 8 hours?' - We are both part time workers but due to the changes we have been in 2 hours early.
'No! I have payed him for my shift, 9:05 - 14:35, what i am being paid for!'
'No you need to pay him the overtime because we need him to prep the walk but have no money to pay anymore overtime'.
Serious conversation.
Apart from this my day was actually quite good, finished on time for a change!!
I would say this is a performance issue, tut tut I can see having to go down the conduct code, As I have to wing it and bluff my way through a day and pretend I know what I'm doing. Ando he sounds familiar?

What a load of bollox - assuming the walk would have been prepped for you, if there is no one to prep the walk and he is doing the same duty as you would have done - then it is the managers responsibility to find funds or support for the walk - NOT YOURS !!! Would you have prepped it for nothing ?Ando37 wrote:I go on holiday tomorrow morning and arranged for a colleague to work my day off for me with me paying him for it. I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

A very interesting day today as my walk was part of the Olympic Torch relay route. Our management were very good and had arranged for the mail to get to us early so that i could get out of the depot before the main crowds turned up,and it went very well with only the last 30mins being difficult with the pavements being 20 deep in places

Should have told him you were introducing summer savings on your duty and absorbing the indoor element into the manager's duty.Ando37 wrote:'No you need to pay him the overtime because we need him to prep the walk but have no money to pay anymore overtime'.
Budgets are budgets and mail's down 6% again,we all have to do our bit.

Mon.
Yet another day of more rain.
Dom having big trouble in covering walks today as a couple of guys called in sick and they decided a couple of weeks back to only pay 5 hours OT a walk. So no surprise that no one feels like taking it on after 4 hours walking in the rain.
Finished my walk dead on time and then went off to do my absorbtion which i booked on OT (easy money).

"they decided a couple of weeks back to only pay 5 hours OT a walk." Same in our office now. Cannot understand why anybody would even think of doing a walk for that.
Rained all day today and I forgot my rain gear which was still waiting for me back at the office.
Soaked just ins't the word.

Light day but my legs were heavy. Heavy days when my legs are light are much easier. Finished perhaps twenty minutes early on a day that was generally considered to be "THE LIGHTEST EVER". Tbh, I find most days a bit of a chore nowadays.
