Hello from a NOOB and a few questions

Post by Bebob5 »

I am now at the stage of just recently being informed I have a job as a PT Postman. Just have to wait for security checks to complete and then being given a start date.

So it's time to say hello to everyone. :wave :wave

I have been looking through this site and found that it has a lot to offer. Hopefully I can repay the good advice in future years. As a newbie I've picked up some good advice, even if some of it is doom and gloom. Can't wait for Park & Loopy and trollies :hmmmm

Just have a couple of questions if you can help

1. There are two starting rates of pay, £8.37 and £8.58. I am on the lower rate  What would I expect to be earning after 6 months and 12 months if I get my contract extended.

2. As I am on a 3 month contract I understand that I may have to wait a while before I can order the uniform. Will I have access to a waterproof coat for out great British summer? Otherwsie I'll have to re-use my emergency blackbin bag from outdoor festivals :chuckle

3. The advice it seems is walk at a speed that you are comfortable with to finish your round. I know at first I will be slower than normal. So I don't want to come across as doing this to get extra money [even tho I do need the money as I am skint :Boo hoo! ] but if I don't 'cut off' and do the overtime to complete the round, do managers get funny about how much overtime you work/book or is he just grateful the round is completed for the day? You can gather then I will not be coming in early for free. LOL

Thanks

1: £372.10 for full-timers outside of London after 12 months,don't know about 6 months.

2: See you manager, work place coach or your rep.

3: See your work place coach or your rep for local advice, make sure if you do go over that you get paid the extra hrs.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
