Re: LTB 455/12 - Colleagueshare/New Incentive Arrangements
I may be a little old and confused in truth, but for the life of me I cannot see what a member of the union would do on the board. How would a single person be able to influence people whose vested interest is in profit for the shareholder not terms and conditions? If we happened to get 20% would that mean 2 seats on the board? Are we going to be able to "cash in" our shares on leaving the business or is it yet another valueless commodity - merely a sop in order to get a seat on the board for someone from the CWU. Should it be one of the glitterati and they happen to be ousted from their position and yes I do know how very very very very unlikely that is - would he lose his seat on the board. The only way I would accept this state of affairs is if they actually were sat on a board with nails in.
If there was any honesty within the CWU then anyone who has been responsible for the debacle that was BT2010 should immediately be ruled out for the position and my reason for stating that is the fact that with a resounding vote for industrial action, they caved in after 2 days of NATIONAL action for the Interim Agreement - which judging by the ongoing talks 2 years on is STILL interim - so if that is the best they can do they're no good on the board to defend our T&Cs.

See the problem with your posts is that you mis reprsent what the cWU have actually stated. For the record Dave Ward has stated the CWU have no intrest in a place on the board so stop mis representing the CWU.
What the CWU have said there are a number of boards like the pension board strategy , new products and services , automation strategy etc. Why would be that wrong ?
See what you fail to mention is that in the past we had the Sawyer partnership boards , the Civil service partnership boards and the Whitley Council boards none of them weaken us.
Now like I said I would rather see the detail of what may or may not be offer before I decide if it should be binned or not.
But it is not right that people claim to know what is happening and clearly do not.

That's the problem.dingo wrote:But it is not right that people claim to know what is happening and clearly do not.
No one knows what's going on.
Will it be a seat on the main board as a major shareholder might expect?
Will it be a seat on some minor sub boards?
Would the board member have real power or would it just be a token gesture?
Partnership boards never really worked in the past and are less likely to in the future with a privatised employer but it's the effect on the membership that these appointments have that worries me.
This is not the glorious past, this is now,the membership is a different animal to what it was even 5 years ago.
If you piss this lot off they won't get angry and demand change they will just get gone.

In that case lets open the books and see what IS on offer - there is far too much behind closed doors wheeling and dealing in this present climate. If as is stated we are the union then we deserve to know exactly what is going on rather than the you'll be notified in due course. This isn't the fifties and the standard of education and intelligence of members has moved on. The union seems to have a cabal who seem to think THEY are the union and can bamboozle the membership at will.dingo wrote:See the problem with your posts is that you mis reprsent what the cWU have actually stated. Not whats wrong is that people are being left to put 2 and 2 together and of course like me they come up with 5.dingo wrote:But it is not right that people claim to know what is happening and clearly do not.
Its not the fault of the members if they are poorly informed, its the fault of the Union. I read nearly everything about the Union and Royal Mail, I have to to try and keep myself and RMC members informed and for the life of me I cannot remember anything that has gone out to members explaining Dave Wards, of the Unions position on this.
LTBs are fine, but they are technical, sometime full of legal or arse covering language and don't really communicate with ordinary members that well. What we need, I think, is a members briefing of major issues at least once a week by email and once a month by snail mail.
It is sad, if happy circumstance, that RMC is the best communication the Union have, but as its unofficial we sometimes get it wrong.

You didn't get it wrong teebs.
The truth is nobody knows what shape privatisation will take, who will own us,what kind of boards there may be,what positions may be offered or how Dave' or the union as a whole will react to that offer.
I can guarantee one thing though,if a position on the main board of directors opens up to represent the employee shareholding there will be massive pressure from within HQ to accept that position.
Whether Dave would accept that or whether he would even be the main contender for the position is anyone's guess.

The CWU opposed colleague share fact
The CWU tried to get all the colleague share money based on the revisons but legally could not do so but got the £1000 away from colleague share to payment on lump sums linked to revisons.
Many on here slagged the CWU off at the time saying that they would get colleague share money anyway
In my opinion the Government and Royal Mail conned us in order to get colleague share and the members know this.
There are very few members I speak to and I speak to more than most on here at various members meeting expect any money from colleague share as they know that Royal Mail have conned them.
Now everyone would like the more than an £100 but £100 is more than what most believed was going to be paid this June.
Equally a lot of Branch's and members have been calling for an increase to the Christmas bonus and now from 2013 that will be increased by 100% and that will paid on a permanent basis.
Equalky the talks on the new scheme will take place and it will be based on two things. Additional money for revisons and against Royal Mail's profit results which is what managers bonuses are based on and they always seemed to get paid out.
Equaly the CWU are getting some major accountants to review the Royal Mail's accounts including what they gave access to the European Commission for to ensure under the terms of colleague share is there any money available.
Now I know it's fashionable on this site to slag the Union off and call the two leaders lots of names but do you really think the CWU have not tried to get the money and in fact forced Royal Mail to pay out some new money. Not an easy think to do when Royal Mail are still being criticised for increasing stamp prices , getting a bale out from Europe and the Governement and paying one of highest pay rises this year.
Of course in some of the posters eyes they can choose to ignore the above facts as they don't need to consider these facts as they can sit behind a keyboard and simply have no responsibility to try and force Royal mail to improve terms and conditions in an environment where revenue is falling due to DSA , down trading , the recession and where apart from packets most other streams of mail are falling.
Yes delivery offices are more productive then ever before as there are less walks and staff than there were 10 years ago.
Look there is a simple answer is if you don't want the money on offer donate it to charity. Of course you will have to pay tax and national insurance.
Is that union speak for staff being bullied & harrased on a daily basis,
staff physically feeling the toll of longer and longer delivery spans,
walks/packets failing on a daily basis?

Re: LTB 455/12 - Colleagueshare/New Incentive Arrangements
I know a pec members who responded to a members letter who claimed his office had been stitched up but when he went to the office to meet the members it turned out that the member who wrote was one of only 3 members who voted no to the revison and the rest of the members had voted yes and were happy with the revision.
Which office was this? Not ours that is for sure.

No he isn't. However, even if he was so what his opinion is as valid as anyone else's. You don't have to agree with what he posts, but you have to acknowledge everyone is entitled to an opinion.manchesterpunk wrote:The only question I have is ... Dingo are you Dave Ward?
Also just a reminder to everyone, one of RMCs reasons for being so successful is that we allow everyone a degree anonymity on here, and in that spirit we ask people not to try and "Out" other members, even if your reason is based on good intentions it could actually have unforeseen consequences .

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

And it looks like it lost part of the message - like how many hoops we are going to jump through for the "New Incentive" initiatives - but I think I can predict that those who will be doing the jumping won't be getting a vote on it and when it goes tits up the union wouldn't have liked it in the first place.fishtank wrote:POSTMAN wrote:Got this in letter form today,17 days ago this LTB came out.

When we look at how far working conditions have fallen for postal workers over the last decade or so, a place on the board of directors seems ample reward for the CWU from a grateful Royal Mail management.
Matters little to me if the CWU refuses to accept their reward, the fact that it was offered at all, should be what concerns those foolish enough to remain members of that discredited organisation.
