Reported accidents and injuries down 22%

Post by Almighty1 »

I could only laugh at the results on "reported accidents an injuries being down 22%" in the RM Courier Special. The key word there was "Reported" I don't know about you guys, but in our office trying to report an accident or injury is an almost impossible task. Staff have been put off reporting their injuries and accidents due to managers telling them all injuries must be reported within 24hours ( where is the manager when you need to report an injury?" ) or blaming the injured party for the accident in a desperate attempt to divert all responsibility away from the RM. We all know the reporting procedure, but all to often get put off by managers giving us a hard time, but unfortunately in our office it works a treat.. reported accidents down, paper work looks good so why are we all walking around like Zombies? :d'oh!

Yesterday I noticed a member of staff coming back from her duty with blood running down her shin, she told me she slipped on a loose tile on a step. No first Aider on site, so i looked in the First Aid boxes and they were almost empty with nothing of use in them. I told her we should report it to the manager and she said"whats the point?,he'll only blame me"

So no wonder Moya's accident and injury figures look so good. Not a true reflection of what really is happening in our offices. If you injure your back, neck or shoulder they say "you must have done it pushing your shopping trolly around the supermarket" it couldn't possibly be because we are carrying over weight bags on our backs for over 4hours a day because we are directly discouraged from using our LWT to save our backs in order to complete our deliveries on time :no no

... and whats the point of these risk assessments? for example the risk assessments says 8kg for a steep hill, however the loops are coming up 16kg and over, WTF! the manager says break the bag down, but will not accept walking over dead ground takes more time. which now results in a cut-off and more bullying!

Are risk assessments a box ticking exercise more than anything? cause lets face it who has time to read one? and why doesn't the WRAP work hand in hand with the A-PLUS and Geo Route? why? because they would have to put more walks back in the office!

Rant over! :arrrghhh

RM will try and do anything to reduce accidents should it be through threat, using different lingo such as incidents, none absent injury, first aid incident etc etc but just remember RM and wcm is not above the law and I really look forward to the day this is exposed for what it really is a FARCE.
