To be honest i would say yes but again see tomorrow if the t&t has been updated,if there is no update at all in time then the only way you will 100% know is when or if the DWP get back to you.

Not sure now,to confuse matters,the DWP have an 'opening' service with us,not sure if pensions are involved tough.

Emm, interesting. So I wonder at which point such a letter is considered delivered?

If the item is opened at the office then i presume that's the point it's considered delivered.
They used to do this for the local DSS office near me (maybe still do).
All the mail is opened and put into various sealed pouches which are then delivered to the various departments in the office.

Yes, I'd have thought the point of opening, even if it's by RM acting as an opening agent for the recipient, would be the point of delivery. You'd think they'd scan the bar-code first.
Unless it's been lost on the last leg of course 8-(

I'm a bit of a pessimist with things postal.

Just for fun I asked RM via Twitter (why don't they just use normal email?) about this letter that's stuck on T&T as On Delivery since the 13th.

RM via Twiter:
'We're still waiting for signature as explained previously. Contact the address if you're concerned about the item.'


My reply via Twitter
'That kind of defeats the whole idea of Special Delivery don't you think?'

'I think we can be sure of delivery if you have information that it's not we can arrange an enquiry.'

It would indeed be cheaper to use first class and then phone up and ask if it has arrived 8-)

right. theres lots of variations and possibilities here.
If they are waiting on a paper bulk delivery.
It could be the old bulk sig cards(same as you got at home but for 1 delivery and about twice the size.
Or it could be a bulk delivery print out.
all the items are allocated and then the tracking gun is downloaded and a print out printed.
this has all the item numbers and a section to sign & print
Both of these options shouldnt stop at out for delivery.
the duty should be confirmd that day as delivered. though there will be a delay in the sig uploading.

for mail opening/scanning. The delivery office should be scanning the SDs out of the office(eg redirected) or delivered if they deliver it to the mail opening unit.
once the mail is opened then they items are bulk bagged and the hard copies sent in a 'direct bag' as an SD the next day. so the original barcodes have to be scanned delivered before leaving the mail opening unit.

If it is delivered by PDA,then the PDA scan confirms it as delivered.

regardless of methods used. the out for delivery message is now a failure. it doesnt matter if they are waiting on a paper copy coming in.
all SDs should be confirmed delivered/undelivered on the same day of due delivery.

Do the PDAs have a bulk delivery option? If they do maybe the stuff was scanned and confirmed but the pda crashed and lost the data before it got transmitted

you should be obtaining a sig before handing the item over.
so if it crashes and is dead as a dodo.
then you need to take a note of the numbers/get a sig manually by whatever means(i keep an emergency sig card)
then inform the office ASAP to get confirmation sorted.
If the PDAreboots then the data should still be there or you rescan.

it doesnt send until it has something to send.
eg after you get a sig,scan no answer etc
there is no 50 limit on DO outdoor,only DO indoor

Yes, that's what I'd have thought. I was a bit surprised at the Twitter response from RM customer service. T&T still says 'On Delivery'.

Anyway, I re-sent the same information by SD to the same Po Box on 18/6/12 in the morning and that letter shows up on T&T as

TBH,its typical of the way RM is going.
Staff are running around trying to cover staff shortages.things are covered ad hoc and mistakes happen.
