hi
sorry if this has been discussed before. I fully understand why the recent price rises had to happen and I'm happy to see the extra investment but I don't understand why posting to the UK is so cheap for others around the world.
As an ebayer, I'm finding sellers from around the world can post to UK at a fraction of what I have to pay.
A buyer wanted to return an item to me from Malaysia last week. They went to their post office, put the equivalent of 71p in stamps on it and sent it to me Recorded Delivery.
For me to send that same item to a UK address second class recorded would be £3.15
thanks
cel

hi Straight4ward
I realize that, my point was more about the costs of providing a high quality postal service here in the UK.
If the Royal Mail cannot survive of the older price model, why are prices for post from outside the UK not also going up?
Right now they are so low surely UK users are subsidizing post coming into the UK which given the rise of eBay I would have though is a fairly significant amount

In its simplest form, because you pay Royal Mail who have a price, and they paymarcel808 wrote:hi Straight4ward

who have a different price. They are 2 different companies with 2 different pricing structures.Just as in the UK Royal Mail, Parcel Force, City Link, UKMail, etc all have different prices for the same thing going from Birmingham to Maidstone.
Another for instance a basic letter to Malaysia weighing 0.01Kg and 10cm in all dimensions would costs a variety of prices

This might help;
Universal Postal Union.
For the purposes of postal communication, all member nations form a single geographic territory.
Every member binds itself to transmit the mail entrusted to it by every other member.
As I understand it, (for example) the money you pay to send an item from the UK to Malaysia would remain with Royal Mail
and the money your Malaysian friend pays to send an item from Malaysia to the UK would remain with the Malaysian postal service
which brings me back to my original point about the relative costs of living.
Hope this answers your question.

UK postal prices have no bearing on the senders coutries postal prices.marcel808 wrote:hi

Do you really know about RM? or do you simply look at the costs?
Dos the postal service in malaysia provide a 6 day,set price service for the whole country?
Do they have competitors?
do they have to provide a cut proce service for their competitors?
