Airsure

Post by johnmoffat »

Can someone explain to me the point of Airsure?

I understood that it gave full tracking right up to the point of delivery.

I sent a parcel to Latvia on 28 March using Airsure. On 30 March the RM website said that it had arrived in the destination country and it has stayed like that ever since (it is now 18 April).

In fact, according to the Latvian post website, it only arrived in Latvia on 7 April and (because of Easter) was delivered on 10 April.

I rang RM on 3 April about it and was told that their website would be updated automatically, but only when Latvian post updated theirs. Strange that they managed to update RM to say that it had arrived in Latvia before Latvian post did, and that it has not progressed further even through Latvian post says it has been delivered :-)

Airsure isn't available to Latvia which would explain why the Tracking doesn't tally.

No - I did not understand wrong!
One page of the RM website says that Airsure is not available to Latvia, but another page says it is!

-------------------------
Where can I send mail with Airsure®?
You can send mail by Airsure® to over 30 destinations. They are:

European Union Zones*
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Spain and Sweden

* Airsure® to European Union destinations is subject to VAT at the standard rate.
--------------------------

Regardless, I wanted to send it International Signed For, but two different people at the Post Office convinced me that Airsure was better because it gave full tracking to the point of delivery.

The receipt says it is Airsure and gives Latvia as the destination country.

(Incidentally, I messaged the RM about this using the contact form on the website - the message was sent on Wednesday and I got an immediate automatic confirmation saying that they were closed for the weekend :Very Happy )

tracking is down the recipients local postal service
When your mail is delivered, the item will be electronically scanned by the postal operative delivering it to confirm it has arrived. So a signature is not taken, but an electronic delivery confirmation is used to update our Track & Trace. If you specifically want your item to be signed for when it is delivered, we recommend you use International Signed For™.
at best you get a delivery conformation
however I can assure you its not always the case depending on the systems and processes of the recipents postal service

I must say, there are two pages on the Royal Mail website related to Airsure. One I believe is on the Details page, and the other is a separate page detailing the countries Airsure can be despatched to. Both seem to have 1-2 varying countries.. :hmmmm

I was on the understanding that if Airsure is sent to a country that doesn't accept it, either HWDC or the destination country will return the item to sender.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
