Broken letterboxes

Had a irate bloke come in the callers office today going bananas blaming me for breaking the innerflap of his letterbox.
I'm not saying it wasn't me as I sometimes deliver there but it could have been anyone of a number of junk mail posters plus you have to fight through the rubbish to reach his door.
What is the RM 's policy on this?

Give them CS number and let them deal with it. That's what my manager told me when I was in locker

I don't know if there is any official stance on this. But, in my opinion, if you break someones letterbox when posting letters though it then its their problem since their letterbox is clearly not fit for purpose.

Was it in the way? Hindering access? Fitted incorrectly? Then its his own fault.

I'm pig sick of draught excluder type things fitted too high, or simply too small for the letterbox.

I can't remember the figures but i remember being told at a WTL that RM pay out quite alot for broken letterboxs and its almost impossible to prove it wasn't us so they just pay up

Where I work, most of the council houses have two flaps, both very flimsy, and held together by long pins which can, over time just shift along a bit, and the flap flaps away LOL! !'ve lost count of the number of letter boxes that have fallen to bits when I put letters through! I usually just leg it!

Is it not the onus on the occupier to prove that the damage has been caused by a Royal Mail employee, and not for Royal Mail to prove otherwise.

Could be worse I put mail through a door yesterday where the owners had put a cabinet behind the door and the letter box was stiff and I couldn't get the mail through and I put it through with a little more force bye bye cabinet and contents of. I phoned my manager and told him, what sort of person puts a cabinet behind there front door

I once knocked over a table with a vase on it that was behind the letterbox, their own fault as I'm sure is the same for all those broken letterboxes

Had one the other day. Parcel way too wide and thick to even think about trying to fit it through letter box. No answer form left, next day they were blaming me for breaking the inside flap of the door by trying to post the parcel through! Bloke said his letterbox was 35 years old. I said well it's had a good innings then and walked on. Didn't hear anything back in terms of a complaint, perhaps they realised I had a photo of the parcel when I handed it over.
