My name is Carol and I am currently at Lichfield DO. I have always wanted to be a postwoman from an early age but was missdirected to serve 23 years with West Midlands Police. I was made redundant as a result of cost cutting after 23yrs. I worked in the Birmingham Sorting office over Christmas which only cemented my resolve to work for Royal Mail. I enjoyed working for the police but did not like the changes due to the economic climate. I have found my introduction to Royal Mail to be professional and welcoming - thank you. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I've just started at Oldbury DO, after getting a flavour for it while working at Birmingham sorting office last December.
First week has gone pretty well, but then the real test will come when I'm on the walk alone for the first time next week. Looks like I don't have a bad walk compared with some of the established posties though.
1st assessment:
Good points - freedom to do the walk without a boss peering over you, potential for early finishes, not bad pay for a job that doesnt require any quals, fresh air and plenty of exercise, friendly folks (on the whole).
Bad points - door to bluddy doors, no vans at the office (have to use own cars), stiff letterboxes!
Right, I'm off to sign that petition about legislation about dangerous dogs. The chap who is training me was bitten through a letterbox on Tuesday. (I would have thought he would have known better than to push fingers that far into a letterbox by now but hey.....)
Your be fine. The first day out on my own was a bit daunting but you soon get into it.
I love the job and with the better weather coming what more could we ask for, as you say, fresh air and losts of exercise.

What I don't enjoy is having to go in early to finish the throwing in before tieing up (without pay).
I definitely don't enjoy the DTDs.
And I'm not particularly fond of the 'absorptions' but at least I will get paid for those.
People are asking me if I'm going to stick it, and the answer to that is definitely yes. There are drawbacks, just like any other job, but as I say on the whole it's just fine.
