Got the job!.. Induction 26th

Post by mrtuk28 »

Hey everyone just a quick post to say i'll be starting work with Royal Mail.
26th induction day
27th start at depo

I'll be doing a 25hrs 6month contract as a Postman with Driving!
Hours are 9:30 - 2:30 Between Mon - Sat
What type of work will I expect to be doing in that role??
Plus do you think i'll be able to do overtime??

Any advice would be appreciated?? :hmmmm

Thanks

It normally says Postman with Occasional Driving!

and if its that then in essence you'll be doing the standard posties work, ie delivering letters and parcels.

Your main task will be delivering but you will also be expected to get signatures where required, plan your delivery route, finish up preparing the round (this includes marking where you have packets/parcels for and redirections) but don't worry about it now you will be shown what to do.

If you have a smart phone I would suggest downloading a navigation program and Google Maps, its a godsend when you are on your own out on the ground.

Thanks! :Very Happy
I'll make sure I get me google maps on the go so I can see the best possible route!..
How many streets do you usually cover then when delivering? It says 6-8 mail bags?
How many letters are usually in a post bag and streets?
plus does it make more sense to walk up one side of a road first then back down the other?
Probably common questions but I'm looking forward to it and looking for tips really.

Difficult to say to be honest, it all depends on density of housing, length of streets and mail profiles. You might be on a long street with lots of houses like a council estate but with a relatively low number of letters. Or you could be in a short street that has long drives (commuter belt type area) and a lot of mail for every house.

Yes thats about average although I have had 13 for one delivery once and 2 on a very quiet day for another delivery.

Again depends on the mail profile of the area but normally pouches each take between 30 minutes and an hour to deliver - on average about 40 minutes.

Again depends on the street, I do one area that 1 zig zag down because its on a hill, but another is flat so I do up one side and down the other. The over-riding factor "for me" is the amount of dead walking.

for tips check out this thread http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =1&t=27513" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; although its nine pages long there are some gems in there.

Thanks again!

Thats a good shout on the zigzag technique on hills and up and down on the flats!

I'll have a good read of that information.

You are a legend sir!
