Is this a possible scam or is it genuine??

Post by pontyslapper »

Hi guys and gals,

Just had a package delivered that I didn't sign for even though it was 1st Class recorded. It was posted on 27th Feb and arrived today 1st March.

The query I have regards a sticker on the package.

Its a white laser printed sticker with the RM logo - it says On Receipt please call Royal Mail on 01708 777224 and quote ref: JH/1

Rung the number several times and its goes to answerphone.

Is this a genuine request from RM or something dodgy.

Cheers

I have done a quick google search and can't find that number listed for Royal Mail, and normally they give either a local number (are you local to that code) or a LO-Call 0845 number.

However, Royal Mail do occasionally do quality assurance checks to make sure everything is going through their pipeline ok.

Its difficult to say whether its a scam or a proper document, however as you have already attempted to make contact I would leave it at that.

OK Thanks. Kind of glad I didn't leave a message with any contact details like phone no's etc. Not local to that area code and neither is the sender.

Thought it was iffy when I rang RM CS and the guys there didn't know anything about it.

01708 is the Romford code so doesn't look like a premium rate number.

Was it definitely a recorded item or was it a tracked? Did it have an orange or purple sticker?

Sticker was orange.

Stuff was from a packaging firm. Based in Westcliff on Sea.

I think we have a relief on our round as I haven't signed for anything that needed signing for, for a few weeks now.

The bigger issue for me is a parcel I ordered from China on 27th Dec, last year that has allegedly left China on 13th January, and is still AWOL.

65 days and counting. Stuff's never taken this long before. Its even 'tracked' but doesn't show up on RM or PO tracker - the joys of international tracking.

Best tracking I've experienced was the Norwegian PO - their site allowed me to enter a GB track no and told me what PO the packet was held at so I could inform the lady waiting for the packet which Oslo sorting office to go to.

I'm more worried about the postie not asking for a signature, for too long people have been taking these shortcuts just to make themselves some time

given the label,it might not even be a legit RD
I have had them before wth "tracked" or "signature required" when its just written by the sender

It was a 1st Class Recorded sticker, so I can only assume it was a genuine one.

given the number being close to the local mail centres number and coupled by the fact that the postie has not obtained a signature i would possibly hazard a guess that someone has put that number on there to try and check up on the postie, he is probably forging signatures, ill bet if you put the tracking number into the royal mail website its going to show up as delivered and will soon have "your" signature appear
