I often notice that the letters I receive have two orange phosphorescent barcodes on, which I understand is for the machine to sort them by address?
My question to you MC guys is this, if I were to some how find a program to generate the barcode which RM mail centres apply for each address I am sending to, and I then printed it on each letter, would it speed up delivery?
Or does it still need the orange one? As I often note that the big DSA customers put the barcode on..
I would guess a no although i'm not an MC'er,too much hard work for you for nothing in return.I would guess it's pointless.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
If something could be sent 2nd class and arrive the next day because of applying the barcode, it'd be worthwhile for me. But as they apply it anyway, I suppose you're right..

Let's say you somehow managed to do that, you would get nicked...it's fraud.

Oh I see, but how would it be fraud? All I would be doing is pre-applying the address intelligent barcode.. So there's no chance of 2nd class mail being delivered the next day even if local?
The mail is still sorted by class so I doubt it'd make much difference to how quickly your mail got there. If the wagons are full, they have leeway to hold back the second class stuff etc.

Think about it,you put a 2nd class stamp on a letter, plus a barcode,it trips what ever it trips in the machines and goes into the 1st class bit.

Although if you have an account manager I am sure they could arrange a visit for you - they might even get a bit of good PR out of it.

going by the weirdos hanging around the loading bay at our local MC
interesting is one way to put it
Loading bay? I'm guessing that's just where yorks are loaded onto lorries? Also, surely that could be a security issue (they could be anyone off the street..) Doesn't sound too interesting to me.. I'm more interested in the machinery side of things as i'm an engineering sort of person.

the ones I refer to are RM staff
you cant get in our local MC without ID
doesnt matter if you rock up in uniform and an RM van
no ID,no entry past the gate security
Haha, that's even worse.. what do other workers have to be interested in yorks moving onto a lorry? Surely dealing with them on a day-to-day basis they'd be fed up to the neck of them!!
