Postal operator Secured Mail has delivered growth in the south with a swoop for a division of rival DHL Global Mail UK.
Secured Mail has bought the downstream access arm for an undisclosed sum. It provides bulk mail handling services to clients including Debenhams and Mothercare.
The acquisition includes a mail depot in Crick, Northamptonshire, and 55 staff.
Warrington-based Secured Mail, led by managing director Secured Mail, has been looking to expand in the south, the midlands and Scotland.
The company, which has a hub in Dartford, Kent, posted revenues of £49m for the year to last July and underlying pre-tax profits of just over £1m. It handled 400 million items in the period, from direct marketing literature and utility bills to magazines and goods ordered from Amazon.
Mr Bigley aims to grow the company into a £150m-turnover operation within five years.
He said: “This is a significant acquisition for Secured Mail that clearly signals our ambitions for the future.”
Secured Mail is backed by private equity fund Next Wave Partners and employs a total of 150 staff.

Some figures are really interest, employing 150 staff.............against 150,000 for RM, turnover £49million against RMs billions.
I'm sure these companies would fail if they actually had to do the entire job and not just the easy part.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
