Overtime

In my day as a delivery postman, Back in the early 80s!, we used to get
2 and half hours for a third of a delivery.
Also on our own delivery it was either:
take bills where you are going over three days or get 3 hours for bills.
Mailsort, junk mail, was take where you are going and not on second deliveries or sat morning.
Also when i started there were no house-holds, unfortunaltly at the end of my delivery career they started and what a pain they were!
I really think you delivery postman are well under paid, as i said i did your job for a few years, i enjoyed the summers. But we also only had at most two pouches a day and that was on a heavy delivery! How you manage today with how many pouches is beyond me!

if we work our day off we get a full 8 hours unless you dont do ips which we get 6 hours
on double ups the round is usually thrown in either by a manager or someone getting paid overtime to do it. we then get 1hour 30 for a third of a round 1 hour 15 for a quarter and 3 hours for a half and if we go over the time we book the extra as well.

2.5 hrs for half, 5 hrs for whole in Portsmouth where most duties have 650 drops...are we getting bummped here?

Yep skate you is getting bumped , 27 miles to the West we get 3 for half a delivery and 6 for a complete. Why would you accept any less Muppett!

here in B'mth it is 3:10 for half and 6 for all and if they are in the shite you get more

No prep somebody else does that for two hours 2 + 3 + 3 = more than you get numpty.

I'l type slowly in the hope that even you can understand. If a duty is worth 8 hours normally then it is obviously still worth 8 when covered on overtime. You may be told by a manager that you shouldn't get 8 because you aren't performing any sorting our argument is that the sorting gets done by everyone anyway so if they want to split that time between the whole office blah blah and they then fall in line. It's really not that hard to work out and if you ever have trouble adding up the hours in future I suggest taking off the other glove as well.

The way I do the overtime is quite simple

I get asked to do it so I say I want it bagged up dropped off at a delivery point, if the bags are to heavy I simply wont do it, for a full round I want 8 hours, when they turn round and say we cant give you that we can only give you 6 simply say oh right then sorry but for that I'm not willing to do it, do you want to borrow my bags so you can do it yourself ??? There hours will soon change from 6-8, you are doing them a favour so dont scratch my back you can break your own. Its the easiest way to work, you know full well they dont want to do it themselves so get what you can out of them. Dont let them laugh when they get home thinking they have got away with saving the company a few quid, remeber who's pockets the extra cash is going in !!! Get all you can out of them.
