So I ordered an item on the 14th which was last Wednesday and it was despatched Thursday 15th from an office in Belfast. They claim it was first class but I'm not sure because their delivery estimate is 3-5 day therefore it's second. Anyway I still haven't received the item. Its now the 21st so they've had 4 working days if you don't count Saturday. It's just a small packet so it'll fit through a letter box which means I cant have missed it. I know I still haven't waited the full 5 days but I'm really not sure what's going on. I've had letters coming from N. Ireland taking 7 days, so should I wait a little longer?
What are your previous experiences with Royal Mail- are they meeting estimates? *especially if you've received post from N.Ireland recently!
The problem is, I sort of don't trust the company I purchased from so I'm unsure- What are you opinions on this problem
I'd love to know any of your stories about Royal Mail recently and your opinions of them, first and second class?
Thanks for any help!

anything sent at this time of year could be subject to some sort of delay due to the high volume of packets being sent, however RM do work hard in making sure everything is delivered before the Christmas deadline.
therefore 3 - 5 days could be 5 - 7 days at this time of year

I'd say after a week it's time to tell the company it's not arrived. If they want you to give it an extra couple of days, then I would. But would still inform them it's not arrived. It probably will turn up in the next couple of days, but if it's a gift for Christmas I can certainly understand you don't want to wait. Give them a call and see what they say. Sometimes they do say these items have been dispatched before they actually have and it gives people false hopes.

Re: Where's my post, is it 'lost;
I've been delivering post from the first week in December so I'm not surprised that some mail/packets are being delayed.
TBH anything that you need should be going in the Special Delivery route at this time of the year.

At this time of year it's a lottery, I've delivered first class that's taken a week and first class that's arrived next day!
Over a week I'd say start asking questions.

The problem is the first in last out system which RM operate which means the mail which has been in the backlog the longest gets delivered last. We had a york of 1c intra pkts turn up today with 10th and 12th on a lot of them.

Re: Where's my post, is it 'lost;
I posted something second class to somewhere 40 miles away (same Mail centre though) which arrived today. My friend is still awaiting a first class parcel which was posted on the 12th though from firebox... I think it just depends upon the route taken and the back log/bottle necks along the way at this time of year. RM won't consider it as "lost" until it's been 15 working days anyway.
