Nov 16, Colombo: The protest commenced by workers attached to Sri Lanka's postal service has affected the distribution of letters and stamps to other post offices.
Postal workers have commenced a protest campaign calling for the immediate removal of Post Master General D.M.K. Dissanayake.
A trade unionist engaged in the protest said that apart from the distribution of letters, stamps that are to be distributed to other post offices have also come to a standstill due to the work at the Central Mail Exchange coming to a halt.
He has observed that there would be a shortage of stamps in many post offices if the protest continues.
Spokesperson for the joint postal trade union, Chinathaka Bandara has said that postal workers from all over the island have joined the protest campaign and have stopped working overtime.
The trade union has threatened to convert the fast launched by several members of the union into a fast unto death if the authorities failed to respond to their demand.
