whats happening in june they said we would be privatised by the end of summer 2011>?????????

Royal Mail cannot be privatised until Europeam State Aid is granted. However the catch is Royal Mail cannot afford to repay the pension deficit after next April and if they don't get state aid there is a real possibility that Royal Mail will go into the hands of the administrators.

All the attention from Royal Mail , the CWU and the Government is on whether Europe State Aid is granted rather than privatisation.

How long is a piece of string ? The European Commission does nothing quickly as it's bureaucracy knows no bounds. The problem with Royal Mail it does not have time and no money past April to pay it owes and that means Royal Mail could be in real trouble in May next year.

Does anyone really think ANY government in this country could afford to let it's postal system collapse? :crazy: The economic fallout would be a disaster for business up and down the country.However much it costs to keep us chugging along has got to be less than letting it collapse,surely...

Too many smoke and mirrors,will the government let the pensions of the 245,000 who are in it disappear?
And are the same 245,000 gonna take the pension at the same time which is where a lot of figures come from regarding the bankruptcy of the company?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

There is a difference between going into admistation and being bankrupt a big difference. All pensions prior to 2011 will be protected but no government or anyone else has to fund pensions there after.

that's why the granting of state aid is so important. There is no smoke or mirrors just ask British telecom whose pension is coered by a crown guarantee they refused to pay into the pension protection fund and Europe ordered them too.

Whether we like it or not the granting of state aid and whether it is granted or not and if it is on what terms is probably the biggest issue postman and women have faced ever.

Not a lot we can do about it, its in the hands of the Gov. & E.U.

So no point in any of us worrying about it

You have to lance the boil, not leave it until it bursts & festers.

But that time has sadly passed.

I don't think it will happens very quickly as European competition will be more worried about saving euros than buying Royal Mail.

Ive got 24 years yet before I recive FS pension and 29 years for CSDB pension scheme.

Ive got over two decades of paying in but not taking out still to go.
