Can somebody help me out here?

Was a casual under a RM contract at the Peterborough MC since July 2010, usually on nights getting infrequent shifts here and there, they were 3 month rolling contracts. My last RM contract was due to end first week of October.

I worked 10pm-6am from 10th-16th September and on the Saturday after waking up getting this Angard deal. Still haven't sent it yet.

Got a payslip through the week after taxing me for income tax (which never happened under RM), and quite a drastic amount short. Previously it'd be a 37 hour week when signing on each evening, this Angard payslip states 32 hours.

Pay: Including nightshift allowance under RM I'd receive £5.95ph basic plus a night shift allowance of £1.76, therefore £7.71. This has now changed DRASTICALLY to £5.95ph with a 48p NIGHT SHIFT ALLOWANCE to £6.43! Absolutely ridiclous.

So what on Earth can I do here? I'm a good £120 short and nobody will work for those rates.

Cheers.

Also worth noting that I received a letter a week later from the Staff Resourcing Manager at our MC, AND a RMG Casuals 'employment briefing pack. I'll type up the letter now and the Q&A in another post. Letter below is dated 21st September.
Dear Royal Mail Casual,

I am writing this letter to all of you as I feel the situation regarding casual contracts has become a major concern to all of us.

It is with deep regret that I must confirm that no payments will be made this week for hours worked last week. This is due to some basic communication errors between Royal Mail and Angard which resulted in our timesheets being submitted late.

I would like to clarify that any hours worked WILL be paid at the earliest opportunity (err, not)

In the past few weeks I have been able to get little if any information about your contracts with us and what actions should have been taken. As soon as I have this information I will pass it onto you all immediately including confirmation of the hourly rates and night shift allowance.

There is clearly a national problem with the transfer of contracts from Royal Mail to the Angard agency run by REED. At this time I have been informed that all Royal Mail contracts were suprerseded as from Sep 11th 2011 UNLESS stated otherwise.

I have enclosed a Q/A form that may include some valued information or contact telephone numbers and as soon as I have anything further I will inform you all immediately.

Royal Mail highly values your work and I would like to apologise for recent events

Regards

###########

1.Introduction

This document has been prepared in order to assist you through the process of the termination of your RMG casual contract and the offer of new employment on an Angard flexible resource contract. This document is intended as a guide only. Please take the time to read through the document to help you understand the process that will be followed

Q. Why is my contract changing?
A. Angard Staffing will be operating a service to provide RMG with Flexible Resource employees to undertake assignments during required periods. This process replaces the previous provision of both RMG Casuals and the use of temporary agency workers. All RMG Casuals currently under contract with RMG will have their employment terminated by RMG on 11th September (or on the date that their current contract expires at certain locations) and will have the option to work for Angard Staffing from 12th September following the termination of your employment as RMG Casuals.

Q. Do I have to accept the offer of an Angard Staffing contract?
A. You will have the option to reject the offer of employment by Angard Staffing however it is important to note that if you reject this offer your employment will terminated and you will have no right to redundancy or other severance payment

Q. Will my pay be the same ?
A. Your hourly rate will remain the same at £5.95/ hour, as per your current pay rate

Q. Will my terms and conditions change?
A. If you accept the offer, you will be employed on an Angard contract of 38 weeks

Q. Where will I work?
A. You will be joining a geographical pool on employees who will be placed on assignment with Royal Mail and will be offered work according to your preferences. Your skills will be captured in terms of processing, delivery and driving roles.

Q. Why will I need to bring in my documents to be checked?
A. When you commence employment with a new employer, that employer must check that you have a legal right to work in this country. Royal Mail Group also have a strict vetting policy, and Angard staffing must comply with this policy

Q. What process will I go through?
A. You will receive a letter from Royal Mail Group Terminating your employment with Royal Mail Group, you will be given this by your line manager at a consultation meeting. You will then receive a letter offering you a contract with Angard staffing. If you wish to accept, you need to sign the contract and return it in the envelope provided. If you do not wish to accept this offer, then you will need to return the contract with a note to say you do not wish to proceed.

Q. What happens if I don't accept the offer of employment from Angard staffing?
A. Your contract with Royal Mail Group will be terminated on 11th September, you will receive wages for hours worked w/c 5th September on Friday 16th September, and any holiday pay you have accrued will be paid on Friday, 23rd September.

Q. What if I have further questions?
A. If you have further questions from your termination of employment with Royal Mail Group, please contact the HR Contact Centre on 08456060603. If your query is reagrding Angard Staffing, please contact Angard Staffing on 08454607318

Be careful how you frame your FOI keith.
Angard are a Private Limited Company so they aren't bound by Freedom Of Information and RM will try to use the cloak of commercial confidentiality under section 43(2) of the Freedom of Information Act.
That's the stunt they pulled over the World Class Mail budget.

No problem! As long as I can get some clarification of my own on the above case and getting paid correctly, ha. May sound banal but as a young person £120 is quite a lot to suddenly go away.
