Prime Vision-TNT Post UK partner in postal automation

With the twin objectives of gearing up to meet a changing and growing market as well as taking maximum advantage of deregulation, TNT Post UK has embarked on a substantial programme of investment in automated sorting. But rather than opting for a series of off-the-peg solutions, it has chosen to develop some of its own in partnership with Prime Vision. The result is not only a fully integrated, purpose-designed system but one that has the flexibility to be upgraded and modified in line with future needs.
The decision on video coding was made in favour of a solution developed by Prime Vision for PostNL in the Netherlands for a nationwide platform connecting all sorting centres – a combination of Prime Vision’s MailMatch and the offshore coding service, called Shore.
Typically, if a mail item is rejected once by the OCR system it is now automatically selected for web coding. At this point a barcode is printed onto the item to give it a unique identity and its image is captured. This is then sent via Prime Vision software and servers to the central processing hub in the Netherlands and via the Shore service to the Philippines for video coding.
“Implementation was seamless and delivered on time,” explained operations director Martijn de Lange. “Within a fortnight our volume of hand-sortation dropped from over five percent to under 0.5 percent and the service can easily be scaled to match mail volumes.”

So it's Address Intelligence except that instead of sending the stuff to be manually coded to random MDEC centres in the UK, it sends it to the Netherlands?

What a stupid idea, "yeah lets increase latency so less items are sorted on first pass, and it takes longer for the coding to return!"

Why aren't we thrashing this so called "efficient" competitor?
