Assaulted by postman
Hi All,
I was assaulted be a off duty postman recently (my next door neighbour) he has been given a “adult caution” after admitting the offence and saying he “saw red” I was wondering if his employer has / should be informed of this due to the fact he meets the general public on a daily basis and obviously has anger issues?
Regards
F

Royal Mail would have been informed already as we are a "Notifiable Occupation" under Police regulations.

Yes, why don't you grass him up and see if you can lose him his job.freds wrote:Hi All,

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Nothing like winding someone up then giving them a kick whilst they are down. Just let it go or are you wanting him to lose his job aswell?
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

Re: Assaulted by postman
Just curious but if a postman fell on your drive would you hand them a chequebook? If I fall I brush myself down and move on.
Works both ways. The fact he is a postman is irrelevant. Would you be after his neck if he worked at HMV? I doubt it.

Re: Assaulted by postman
seems to me like the police have dealt with this and he has accpeted his punishment
is that not enough for you?
would you like your employer notified if the tables were reversed?
why not just accept what the police have done and move on

To stormproof:
Not sure what your comment "Nothing like winding someone up then giving them a kick whilst they are down" is about, however it appears you feel you can imply I was at fault somehow by "winding him up" and yet you do not know what happened (or do you?), maybe you also "see red" and comment or act before thinking as you did in your post?
Before you say "there must have been a reason", there is no reason to assault anyone especially in such a cowardly way giving the other person no change to defende themselves (no warning whatsoever).
On the point of "losing his job" to be honest I feel an "adult caution" for actually admitting assault it woefully insufficient, how many times have we heard of people dying from a single punch or kick and been outraged by this act? if I has died as a result of this assault would you be saying "well don't jail him he must be feeling bad about it anyway", However to answer to your question, if the post office deem to sack him once finding out about this then THEY not me must deem an assault unacceptable and it is THEY who would be doing the sacking not me!
P.S. you words could have been chossen a littler better "kick whilst they are down" is what he would have done had I not been physically fit enough to withstand his attack!
TrueBlueTerrier:
Thanks for the info I will check up on this.

Re: Assaulted by postman
Whilst I don't condone this assault, I feel it has nothing to do with his job. Different if he was on duty at the time.

so you involve the police they investigate and because you are not satisfied that he got a caution, you come on a public internet forum and try to get the guy to lose his job becuase you are not satisfied?
that is your opinion - obviously the police had another opinion and have dealt with it with what they consider a suitable conclusion - that should be the end of it
you do realise that by coming on here and posting what you have the person in question would probably have good grounds for a harassment case against you - just accept it and move on that is my advice

No I would not hand him my cheque book, but I would help him anyway i could to the point of taking him to hospital if needed as any normal person would, it is not the fact that he is a postman but I think you all might have asked "why is he asking this on here" if I had posted "attacked, should his employer be notified" and I am unsure why you think that if a HMV employee assaulted me I would not be on a HMV forum asking the same questions.

Please re-read my original post before commenting and as for "harassment" check this legally and in the dictionary before accusing someone as I am very confident I have not harassed anybody, however if you do feel I have please contact any relevant people as if I have harassing someone I too should be punished to the full extend.
To everyone:
My original post said "I was wondering if his employer has / should be informed of this due to the fact he meets the general public on a daily basis and obviously has anger issues" this meant, does the post office have a contractual requirement for employees to notify them or to be notified by the police if an employee is convicted of assault or goven an adult warning, hence asking on here a "post office" forum, if this was a HMV worker / traffic warden or a council worker I would do the same on a relevant forum. I am not having a go at post office workers I was simply trying to understand if the post office should contractually be notified. If they do I do not see notifying them as an issue or believe it is seeking any additional punishment merely ensuring that any suitable punishment / actions are enforced.
