Union room or competitors,Union room or competitors?

Building on the success of the union in the Midlands region, London CWU has launched a recruitment drive among UK Mail workers in the capital, visiting company sites in the city this month and continuing to grow membership and organisation.
At UK Mail's Docklands operation, CWU London Region secretary Jim Kirwan and the union's organising team were joined by the union's general secretary Billy Hayes as they handed out leaflets to postal workers arriving for their shifts.
Delivery driver Paul Newman (pictured with Jim Kirwan) initially turned down a leaflet when Jim approached his vehicle, but the London secretary politely explained that he was here "on behalf of the Communication Workers Union to fight for better wages, terms and conditions for you."
At this, Paul smiled and replied: "I'm sorry, I thought you were handing out leaflets advertising pizzas!"
The UK Mail driver told Jim that he thought a union was "definitely needed in there.
"There are lots of problems we need to deal with and at the moment, no-one's listening to us," he explained.
"This response is typical of what we've experienced today," said Jim, after Paul had asked for a membership application form and gone into work.
"Everyone has taken a leaflet - some workers have also asked for more to take in for their colleagues - and several of them have asked for application forms."
Operations worker Stewart Johnson (pictured) told Billy Hayes that he was "already a CWU member," when he stopped to talk to the general secretary before clocking on for duty.
"A few people have said they already belong to the union," Billy remarked, "and I'm asking these people if they can take some of our leaflets in to their fellow workers.
If membership does start to take root on this site - as it has at other locations - then the next step is to ask if any new members are prepared to take on the responsibility of becoming a rep. At other UK Mail sites, workers have come forward to volunteer as on-site reps and this means that union members can be represented by fellow workers who they know and who have a direct understanding of the issues that they need to deal with.
"It's been very positive today," said Billy, adding: "It's vitally important that all postal workers in this country can exercise their legal right to union representation at work. Whether in the private of public sector, whether in London, the Midlands, or any other region of the UK, the CWU is here to fight for the rights of all workers in this industry."

Membership blitz at UK Mail
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Membership blitz at UK Mail
On the Plus side it might make any strikes we have more effective if UK Mail CWU Members refuse to cross picket lines, and likewise us refusing to handle theirs if they are on strike.
Its also good generally if more workers join Unions otherwise the term "solidarity" is just a long word.
So while I recognise the concerns of current members I have to applaud at least the strengthening of the Union movement as a whole.

One of the ideas is to up the wages of our competitors, that way RM spieling what they get paid as apposed to us would work better for us in wage negotiations.
Well that's the idea anyway.
