As to branches
40+ Mail Centres
1,500 delivery offices
60-70,000 delivery posties
8,000 + Post Offices
An average postie on a delivery has 400 addresses, just counting how much mail each address has would take most of a shift. Might be able to do it by computer at the MCs as they went through the sorting machines but there would be cost implication and a legislation compliance cost (Freedom of Information and Data Protection Acts to name just 2) but that would not include the approximately 10% of mail that has to be manually sorted every day.
Nice idea from a customer perspective but to be honest completely impractical in application just on cost and volumes.
I would have thought the national average would be higher than that
Although I have to ask why they called it a supplement - I though supplements made you feel better.
even before P&L,i would say over 95% of our duties were over 400 calls
some as high as 900

That's the truth right there. My local postie delivered something from Play.com when no-one was in, and instead of leaving a note and taking it back to the sorting office, he chucked it over the fence into an unused bit of my garden and left no note to say it was there! Consequently, it sat there for over a month where it was rained on and chewed by foxes! Bl**dy incompetent!

Re: Royal Mail are a JOKE!
Like you I like to tape up my ebay stuff rather well. However I leave a little square untaped in the top right hand corner so the stamps stick properly. If you have paid the correct postage, take the receipts along to the PO, along with proof that your customers have been charged and they should refund it. Or send all the proof (copies) to RM customer services.
It's a common scam for people to say that they've not received stuff that's been sent on ebay, especially when they know that paypal will side with them. Not saying that this is the case, but everything I've sent, gets sent either RD or SD, and I've had a signature for every single item. May be a little more expensive to send, but worth it to avoid the scammers.

You can pass the extra fee for the recorded delivery onto the buyer. Worth doing because its the only thing that will cover your ass and stop Paypal siding with the buyer when they claim it never arrived.mazza111 wrote:Like you I like to tape up my ebay stuff rather well. not so simple
If you are competing with other sellers
RD makes your postage higher
It also means a buyer may have trouble getting letterbox sized items
it cuts down the retention period to 7 days too
RM cover standard mail for the same comp as RD

Re: Royal Mail are a JOKE!
I too have had enough of Thre Royal Mail, if our Queen had any sense she would demand that the name Royal was eradicated from thier title, they are the biggest joke in England, i ordered an item on the Wednesday morning to be delivered on Thursday, waited all day and even though the supplier posted it on the wednesday morning by first class recorded,no post at all, this has cost me over £300.
But you can gaurentee that Royal Mail will riggle thier way out of compensation with some potty term and condition that says if the parcel is not delivered in this millenium then we could possibly be compensated providing the grandmother of the person who sent the item is still alive and kicking and is still not drawing a pension.

Can you guarantee next day delivery with Recorded Signed For™?
We can't guarantee next working day delivery, so if you need that confirmation, use our Special Delivery™ 9.00am service or Special Delivery™ Next Day service.

It's not really potty,it's there in black and white.
If i had £300 riding on it i would have checked first.

Re: Royal Mail are a JOKE!
i would also maybe just run the recorded delivery reference number through the royal mail track and trace system to find out when the item was actually posted as you may find the send hasnt actually posted it yet but is claiming they have, it happens every once in a while you know, its a great excuse, must have been delayed by the postdiggerman wrote:I too have had enough of Thre Royal Mail, if our Queen had any sense she would demand that the name Royal was eradicated from thier title, they are the biggest joke in England, i ordered an item on the Wednesday morning to be delivered on Thursday, waited all day and even though the supplier posted it on the wednesday morning by first class recorded,no post at all, this has cost me over £300.

Re: Royal Mail are a JOKE!
Tell you what the JOKE is mate..........sending something that is valued at £300 and not using a trackable service. Also the other joke is believing the supplier had sent it on a Wednesday.diggerman wrote:I too have had enough of Thre Royal Mail, if our Queen had any sense she would demand that the name Royal was eradicated from thier title, they are the biggest joke in England, i ordered an item on the Wednesday morning to be delivered on Thursday, waited all day and even though the supplier posted it on the wednesday morning by first class recorded,no post at all, this has cost me over £300.

Re: Royal Mail are a JOKE!
Where do I start - obviously this random "customer" is just as challenged as he thinks Royal Mail are:
Their - not thier
Millennium - not millenium
guarantee - not gaurentee
There is no R in the and you used the wrong "to" as welldiggerman wrote:I too have had enough of Thre Royal Mail,
Royal Is not a "name" in this case it signifies patronage. Even when it was called Consignia it was still part of Royal Mail.diggerman wrote:if our Queen had any sense she would demand that the name Royal was eradicated from thier title,
Biggest joke in England, I wonder what rating you give them in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or any other territory that they operate. However, if your of the little England Daily Mail reading brigade then I fully understand your confusion.diggerman wrote:they are the biggest joke in England, i ordered an item on the Wednesday morning to be delivered on Thursday, waited all day and even though the supplier posted it on the wednesday morning by first class recorded,no post at all, this has cost me over £300.
Wriggle - not rigglediggerman wrote:But you can gaurentee that Royal Mail will riggle thier way out of compensation with some potty term and condition that says if the parcel is not delivered in this millenium then we could possibly be compensated providing the grandmother of the person who sent the item is still alive and kicking and is still not drawing a pension.

Well thanks for sharing your opinion - This site is independent of Royal Mail, but we do offer advice when we can. However an approach such as yours is not going to get many on your side, or willing to help. Here's hoping this was a ride by post.diggerman wrote:ROYAL MAIL YOU ARE A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!
