Wait a few years and you will be able to work for a privatised Royal Mail as a self-employed post man, struggling to equal the minimum wage wnd responsible yourself for own pension and sick and holiday cover.

No RM dont use self employed workers as postmen. Parcel Force though do use owner drivers.

Do you want to be self-employed, running your own business? Do you have your own van? Can you produce a full driving licence with less than 6 penalty points?

Parcelforce Worldwide are now recruiting Owner Drivers. You will be self-employed, collecting and delivering parcels. Services are provided on a six-day week (Monday to Saturday). Your van will need Parcelforce livery.

Hours of Work: 55 per week. Typical start/finishing times 07:00am - 17:30pm

The actual amount you get paid for each parcel depends on the route and delivery time. Average on target earnings are in the region of £35-£40,000 per year.

At the end of each week we total the number of deliveries and collections you have done and produce an invoice for you – after checking and signing this is correct, payment is made into your bank account.

You should expect to arrange cover for the route when you take a holiday or you are sick.

I know someone who's been there and done that and now works for us.
She said the money was good but the pressure, the hours and the responsibility nearly sent her over the edge.
I also know someone who went from PF to DHL then TNT and he said PF was the worst he's ever worked for. :chuckle
