Recorded Delivery - Does it need a signature?

Post by per una »

Hello again,

Another quickie, at work we've not signed for a recorded delivery letter/parcel for well over a year now. The work block we are in has a pigeon hole for all the companies and our mail is just in our pigeon hole without being signed. Whenever a customer is returning an item we tell them to send it by recorded delivery as until we have them back, we cannot issue a refund or replacement. I've checked the tracking details over a week after on some of the post and it just says it's in the system.

Surely this isn't right? As the customer could be checking their tracking number and can make a claim even though it has been delivered? But there's no proof of delivery. (obviously RM will send our company a letter to confirm)

Yes, a signature must be obtained for a recorded item.

Try and have a word with your postie. He is either being very lazy or very stupid (probably both).

If that doesn't work then a phone call to your local Delivery Office will do the trick.

(I can't believe how some people act. What does he save himself, a few seconds?)

There are some situations where recorded items can be delivered without a signature, what you describe is not one of them, it can be delivered without signature where the person at the delivery address is physically unable to sign through disability ie blindness amputee etc, in such circumstances this is recorded on the delivery card by the postman annotating DNS beside the barcode and the time

Thanks for the replies. Our office is in a listed building which is one of five other buildings. There's a site reception in one of the buildings. Each building has a pigeon hole system and a map to tell you what company is on what floor.

Whenever we have special deliveries, the postie comes to our office to get a signature. We seem to have a handful of posties, one of which I know by name. I knows its a hard job as the buildings are like rabbit warrens and when it's someone new, we end up sifting through the post bag as its left on the floor infront of the pigeon hole.

Thats your answer then. He hasn't got time to search the Rabbit Warren but instead of leaving a card and taking the recordeds back, he thinks he is doing you a favour and just leaving them.
