I see what you're saying about it being the regular postie or not - but he's damaged our mail many times before for several years now. He puts it through the door as you're meant to, but he seems to scrunch it into a ball beforehand (he broke the letterbox doing so - it's been unfixed for 5 years now). We've tried telling the local sorting office/HQ, but they ignore us and do nothing about him, so I can only assume from previous experience that it was him. Regardless, no postman should treat mail like mine was. Because of whichever postman, I now have another battle with Play - they're telling me to keep the ruined item and send them back the good one...More unneeded stress and arguments because of one person's disregard and laziness.
I have not intended to come across as rude or ignorant - but it's hard not to get frustrated when you're telling me it's not Royal Mail's fault. I know it's now Play.com's problem, but as I previously mentioned, Royal Mail's screwup is having negative affect on me too - a screw up they don't give a damn about, and will not compensate me for if I get stuck with a chewed up tshirt.
Okay, I won't swear at him - I was still very angry and upset when I wrote that I would. I'll ask if it was him and tell him what his action caused. Not that he'll care.
There's no need to be rude. I apologise for the previous post (now deleted) - I'm just very frustrated. So it's fine for everyone else to be rude to me? Tell me if they were a postman they'd make it hard for me, just because i'm standing up and saying i'm unhappy with the service i'm recieving?
Thank you for all your suggestions though. I guess i'll just have to see what Royal Mail say... if anything...

I can see why you would do it to people. I wish the dodgy posties listened to people like you! I bet RM wouldn't get half the complaints they do. Although I know you can't please everyone, I see people moan about having to pick it up from DO, although I would have rather done that than find it in my garden....

You may find that the dodgy posties are the ones who rarely visit a site like this, therefore aren't seeing the advice given by their colleagues. The dodgy posties are the ones who don't give a monkey (oooer polite) about the job, the ones who do care are the ones here giving advice to customers and colleagues :)

Even though you are yet to find out it was definitely delivered by a RM postman, let's say it was. RM did the job of getting it to your DO and to the correct round no problem, it was a "postman's incompetence" not RM's. So stop slating RM as a whole because of one worker, I can assure you the majority are hard working and put up with a lot of crap from the public.

Re: Suffer RM's incompetence no more!
Just wondering, have you tried posting your letters through your letterbox yourself? I've had a couple of comments over the years about letters being scrunched up, or 'concertina'd'. I had the homeowner try to post the letters through themselves, and they had trouble due to those bristle things. I got a 'Oh sorry I didn't realise', and sometimes they even do something about it. Sometimes its inexplicably hard to force through a letter.RedBedHead wrote:He puts it through the door as you're meant to, but he seems to scrunch it into a ball beforehand (he broke the letterbox doing so - it's been unfixed for 5 years now). ..

Just today I had one incident. A single letter which I braced to go through the flap and yet it still scrunhced up even though I did my best to avoid it. Sometimes I even have to bend the letters (not fold though) to make sure they go through without concentinering.

Re: Suffer RM's incompetence no more!
I'm sorry you have experienced problems but to me it seems VERY strange that your item was thrown over a fence by a postie - if anything a postie would be more likely to 'doorstep' an item than throw it over a fence
can I ask how far the fence is from the front door? I'm guessing it can't be too close as you state it is in a part of the garden you don't use too often You see ( and i'm not saying that when this happens it is right) if someone is not in when you knock sometimes some posties just leave it by the front door instead of the correct procedure which is to leave a card and return the item to the office
my problem is this - IF the postie couldn't be bothered ( for arguments sake) to follow procedure and leave a card why would they then take the item away with them and throw it over the fence - they wouldn't they would just leave it by the front door ( again not saying this is right) if they go to all the trouble of walking away with the item to walk to the fence and throw it over, this would take as much time as writing the card out
Is it possible the postie left it by the door and some 'person' has come along seen it, swiped it had a look seen it was only a t shirt and lobbed it over the fence - to me this is a more likely senario
still does not excuse the item being left by the front door ( doorstepped) and I would still complain to the delivery office
just as a footnote I ordered some items from play that did not arrive and they told me too that they had used Royal Mail and that RM had lost it - that was until I told them I worked for Royal mail then they checked again and found actually they had used a courier
