Suffer RM's incompetence no more!

Post by RedBedHead »

Hello.

I ordered something from play.com at the beginning of last month. It didn't arrive and I spent over a week in a stressful battle with play to get a replacement (which arrived this morning - the postie crumpled it and shoved it through. Luckily it's a tshirt and not breakable like that).

This afternoon, my father found THIS (http://twitpic.com/5k3oat" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) by the garden fence. The postman had thrown the first (deemed missing) package over the fence and not left any notification that it was there. It has been there for a month, and so is ruined by water and the fact foxes seem to have used it as a chew toy. We have no need to check that part of the garden (as we don't use it for anything) so we had no idea it was there.

I've complained to Royal Mail (with some difficulty - I can't phone the numbers and they didn't seem to have an email address), but previous experience tells me they'll worm out of it, or ignore it.

Has anyone else had these problems? Seeing as RM won't do anything about their posties, I think we should complain to Watchdog (http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Then maybe someone will listen!

PS

I know it was Royal Mail because Play.com told me it was posted through them.

The foxes could not have taken it behind the fence because it's a 7ft fence. It was thrown over with NO notification that they had done so.

I know it's of little consequence to you but my question is...if the replacement t-shirt went through the letter box....why didn't the original?
In my experience it's unusual for a postie to throw something over a fence when he/she is going to your front door anyway.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

The first one seems to have come in a box rather than the usual Play.com branded plastic bag, and so was too big to go through the postbox...

Are you 100% it was RM who delivered it? If so I would be starting at delivery office level with your complaint, delivery office manager for starters, put anything in writing to both the manager and the Customer Service people. I've had a similar problem with Hermes putting my stuff in the bin, on several occasions. Not good enough.

It could also be that the delivery person, whether Royal Mail or private courier, left the box on the doorstep as it was too big to go through letterbox, and it was then picked up by a fox, chewed up, and dropped by the fence.
If it was a Royal Mail delivery person he/she should not have left it on doorstep, but might have been trying to be helpful by saving you a trip to the Delivery Office to collect it.
But private couriers do tend to leave items on doorsteps regularly.

Really their own website says:
We use a number of third party delivery agents to ensure your orders are delivered to you as quickly as possible. Any losses after the item has been dispatched from our website must be reported to us.
http://www.play.com/Help.html?page=playterms" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I personally have had deliveries from Play.com by HDNL and City Lnk.

I live in Glasgow and in my particular area play.com always comes via citylink, but in other areas of Glasgow they use RM.
