when you've been working for 4 years do you get a full time contract?

You are confusing the legal right to a permanent contract with the right to a full-time contract.

Have you been doing the same Duty/Hours for a 12 month Period? If you have you might be in with a chance, that's how one of our lads got made up to Permanent Full-Time.
Unfortunately the Management know this and may well put you on a few PT duties during that period, just to "Break" your 12 month period!
A very cynical approach to management/worker relations! 
Read a few other posts on RMC and you'll see we're a company FULL of Part-Timers working Mega Hours and STILL getting dumped on. Good Luck Mate.
