Local MP stands against PO privatisation - Livingston

MP Graeme Morrice renewed his call this week for the government to end Royal Mail privatisation plans that could result in over 9,000 UK post office closures.


The new survey of sub-postmasters, commissioned by the Communication Workers Union, revealed that nine out of 10 believed that they could not survive without Royal Mail business. The current Postal Services Bill does not include this vital link. Up to 9,360 post offices, 75 per cent of the entire post office network, could close according to the survey. This could mean dozens of community post offices in West Lothian facing closure if the sell-off goes ahead.

Graeme Morrice, MP for Livingston, said: “The results of this survey are really shocking and reveal the full extent of the devastation that the government’s privatisation plans could wreak.’’
