special delivery wrong postcode lost track ref PASSPORT!!!

Post by jonononono »

Hi everyone,

I stupidly gave my uncle the wrong postcode to send me my passport, and he's lost the tracking id.. I told him E13 XXX (which doesnt exist) instead of E14 XXX. He sent it on 19th May by Special Delivery so its been over a week now and I need my passport by 2nd June for a trip I've been looking forward to all year. And I've just realised it's a bank holiday on Monday. I'm really panicking... Can anyone help me?? Is there anything that I can do?? Myabe I could visit the delivery office? If so should I go to E13 or E14 or both?? Thanks ppl.

*sent from edinburgh to london btw!

E13 is Plaistow Delivery Office and E14 is Docklands Delivery Office so it might be worth going to both. Good luck.

thanks guys i'll definitely check the delivery offices if i dont get it on tuesday morning. i read in the last post that edinburgh airport was shut for a day or two last week so maybe that caused the delay? and also something about the tracking system being down?

The delays at Edinburgh wouldn't affect an item posted on the 19th, the volcanic ash was later than this wasn't it ? The tracking system was down for a day, you're right, but you've mislaid the tracking number anyway .......... so no matter.
Initially the letter would have gone to the delivery office covering the postcode that you used. When the office recognise the address doesn't exist on their patch they will normally try a neighbouring office. If they don't, the item will be returned to the sender as 'no such address'.
If they do try another office, and they have no luck, they will do the same.
A delivery office is very unlikely to hold on to a special delivery item that's not for them, so as long as your uncle's return address is clearly marked, it will be returned to him. If it's not, it may well be in the Returned Letter Branch and would explain the delay in it getting back to you.

If your's and your uncle's address's are clearly written it's unlikely they are missing ..........

yeh its just the postcode that was wrong. from what i've read on other threads ppl say a wrong postcode should only delay by a few days.. how long does it normally take to be returned to sender? :pray

It would be returned through the special delivery system, so it should be the following working day. Hope this helps.
