Urgent legal documents sent from London Tuesday morning for Wednesday 9AM morning delivery.
Failed to turn up. Sorting office informed me Edinburgh airport closed due to Volcanic Dust and letter still in London.
Hasn't Royal Mail Management heard of contingency plans (Rail/Haulage/Alternate Airports)? We had DHL parcels arrive on time from London yesterday without issue. But RM Management obviously have their heads up their ***.
Wednesday morning Airport opened for full business as usual.
Thursday, no arrival. Sorting office can't tell me when will arrive due to "Tracking Computer failure" across the UK.
Can I arrange for somebody to get the document from the London sorting office, and pass it to DHL? I know I'll get it tomorrow then.. and I am being serious. Royal Mail refuses to give me a delivery time/date.
This is absolutely disgusting service.

you think thats bad, gonna get a lot worse before long, they will be no such thing as 9am next day delivery. could be 9am next week, sorry too say but royal mail dont put the customer first, they come first, along with profit, not a public service like it used to be, thats all gone now, gone are the times of getting your mail before 11am, pretty soon you will be lucky too get three deliverys a week, thats how bad royal mail, has made this company now. over 12yrs ive workeed for these all i can say it is a shambles that is going too get worse they are always full of excuses. use another company that will do as they say

Surely the PO should have stopped selling these SDs when it was announced that there were airport closures though, or at least advised the customers where the SD was going by air that there would be a delay before selling them this product? Is it another case of no communication? Or is it a case of getting the cash in the tills

Re: 9AM Special Delivery... really Special.
Special delivery is still just a mailing service. If you need the service of a private and specialised courier then you have to pay for that service from another supplier.
They should inform people of potential problems when items are sent but the information isn't always available and many SDs are sent in bulk by firms who have no alternatives anyway.
I think the problem lies with people expecting too much from the Special Delivery service. It is a guaranteed service in that you can claim if it doesn't perform as stated but it does not mean that it cannot fail.
