It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This is the crux of the problem.

You have a "miltant" keadership in London who appear to stick up for the interests of their members even if it "appears" to Royal Mail to go against the agreement, also because of the geographical nature of your region those leaders have a relatively easy time getting face to face with the members.

But in my region which is closing 3 or 4 Mail centres the leaders cant get much face time simply because of the distances that would need to be covered, therefore the Mail Centres are effectively isolated from each other and from the Delivery Offices. We are also not seen as a "miltant area" either despite a proud history of Trade Unionism in Yorkshire and the North East. I think the fair bughers of Liecester are just as pissed off as London and Bradford ones are but they don't have the back up from above that London enjoy.

Although I am glad to say it is changing round here because of one Branch Official. Though a recent march in London where ordinary members and one official organised for the Branch Banner to be paraded was disappointing, as Branch Officials did attend in an official capcity, but failed to even approach their members on the march as a sign of thanks or solidarity.

What would we have to do to raise the issue of a strike in our area then? Is it a case of us all drumming up support and emailing the Midlands regional reps? Iam not a M/C worker but i would love the chance to stand beside our collegues and fight for jobs. If Royal Mail can pick and choose which parts of the 2010 agreement suits them why do we all have to put up with the closure of mail centres?

Yes - If there is an issue of import for you and your colleagues then make as much noise as possible and get the FTR reps attention. An email campaign is a good way to go.

FTR rep? Whats that short for? If i was to start a thread about starting an email petition would it be ok to name the rep and include their contact details? Thanks for all your help :Very Happy

FTR = Full Time Release - Reps at Area and above.

Name a rep - Sorry No not on RMC but if you can find the Branch Webpage with those details on it then you can link to it and indicate which rep.

There is one thing you have to be careful of though, only the rep that represents your office should be emailed and vice a versa. We cant have a free for all with members from say Somerset email an Area Rep from Scotland, if would only upset them and probably hurt any campaign your thinking of starting.

Can any of those who are trying to organise a strike/campaign over the MIdlands Mail Centre Review explain what it is they are planning to strike over?

If it's because RM has broken the BT2010 agreement - you won't be able to, because RM hasn't broken it.

At the moment both RM and CWU are abiding by the full terms of the agreement - so where is the dispute?

As others have said - the BT2010 agreement accepts there will be closures. If these are carried out as per the agreement and MTSF is applied properly, there is no dispute to have a strike over.

Unless someone else knows better?

Well maybe there is some wriggle room within the m/c reviews that would give us an excuse? I do not pretend to have a complete understanding of the union strike laws, the question was more would the midlands be interesed in this type of action. I have read on this forum a few times that the reasons for strikes are pretty strict yet i keep reading about people from the TUC and PCS union threatening to strike over government cuts which are not even really job related! As we have just seen with the colleague shares, there are always loop holes to be found in these agreements. But if there isnt the support for a strike it doesnt really matter what the rules are.

Spoke to a senior rep at Leicester Mail Centre who is involved with putting in our branch counter proposals the reps there are working on them and finalise them, I work on deliveries he told me he thinks they will shut, and that Royal Mail are knocking back all the regional counter proposals, and they are stating that it is business policy not to consider inward offices, so looks like Leicester MC will close and on that stance/policy unless Royal mail have a drastic rethink, every Mail centre will close that is earmarked for closure despite all the nice talk of consulation and counter proposals.
