It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I have read the CWU/UCW statement from 1996 reference D2DS and it appears as though the preperation and sorting of D2Ds should be done during duty time. Unfortunately I can't find out if it was agreed or not will email CWU to see what they have/can send me.

The south east CWU branch has been contacted on this matter and their response is as follows ;
-------------------------------------------------------
It appears that a number of managers are informing members that the prep of D2D items should be processed in an individuals own time and not within their duty time. Below is a direct extract from the national agreement on D2D (joint statement from Royal Mail & CWU on D2D (page 7)) which should clarify this issue ;
1. It is accepted that the principal of D2D being paid as a unit payment is that it will be absorbed within normal duty time into existing deliveries in accordance with the nationally advertised serice standards for all mail.
As you will see from the above statement there is NO requirement for any individual to perform prep of D2D items in their own time, indeed there is a clear recognition from the employer that D2D workload should be absorbed within an individuals normal duty time.
Should you find that your local manager is not abiding by the above statement please contact me immediately through the channels so that these issues can be progressed accordingly.
-----------------------------------------------------------
sorry but I don't know who the "contact me" bit refers to, but any member of your regional CWU should oblige, hope this clears things up a bit
