ALKS between thePost Office and union officials over their pay dispute are set for next week.

On Wednesday, the Communication Workers’ Union will meet the Post Office executive team.

More than 250 workers were due to stage a 24-hour stike earlier this month. After two days of last-minute talks it was called off.

The ballot was validated last Friday – in such a way that it did not hit the Post Office’s services.

After the last meeting, CWU national official Terry Pullinger said ‘We feel optimistic for the first time in months.’

Meanwhile, Post Office chief executive Mike Kelly said: ‘I am very pleased we have been able to agree a framework with the CWU which will help us to explore ways to resolve the current dispute.’

The union and Post Office chiefs have been in talks since last April, when staff heard the government’s pay freeze would apply to them.

A total of 193 out of 269 CWU members had voted in favour of strike action.
