Colombo: Sri Lankan postal workers who were on strike have decided to temporarily stop the union action in lieu of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
The Post and Telegraph Workers' Union has said the decision had been made due to the difficulties faced by the people during the holiday season as a result of the strike.
Head of the Union, Navaratne Banda has said the Secretary of the Post and Telecommunications Ministry who has taken over the role of the Post Master General has promised to provide solutions to the issues of the postal workers after the New Year season.
The Post Master General was stripped of all power yesterday pending an investigation and newly-appointed Secretary to the Postal Ministry, Hemasiri Fernando was given the authority to handle the Post Master General's responsibilities.
