Posting a phone to Nigeria

I have a friend who wants to send a phone to Nigeria, is it best to use RM or would it be better to try a courier?

ps. I don't think it's one of those scams but I will warn her anyway.

if its anything to do with ebay or paypal i would just return the money and resell it.

i sent an iphone to eastern europe and the phone was never recieved, i sent it RM tracked but it was only tracked up to leaving the uk so i lost the money

seems to me everytime RM and money are involved i end up bent over

I shouldn't say this but if you do send then get UPS to do it - on their website you can track it through each stage - collection, driver, hub, aircraft, customs, etc. I ordered soemthing from Hong Kong and they sent it UPS and it was great, expensive but great,

they are not covered by an insurance by royal mail not even up t £41 send by all means but at your own risk.

Royal Mail do not offer compensation for loss or damage for a mobile phone with any of their overseas postal services. The only way to send mobile phones safely through the Post Office is to use a Parcelforce service as mentioned above. The customs declaration needs to be filled out accurately to avoid delay. Make, model and serial number of the phone to be declared and any internal battery removed from the phone and packed in the package with the phone in nothing smaller than a size A4 packet. The declaration must state that the internal battery has been removed. The Phone is 100% covered against loss or damage but there is no cover for the Sim Card.

Accepting items correctly in the first instance results in an excellent postal service.

Okay it has been a while since I checked the Royal Mail website on this [about 12 months] so I armed myself with a hot coffee to tackle their site. Let me say that even I as an Express Mails Specialist who knew what she was looking for found the site difficult to navigate and it's no wonder the public [and staff?] are confused.

So enhanced compensation for sending mobile phones via ISF or Airsure is not available. What this means is if the mobile phone you're sending has a replacement value exceeding the cost of 100x a 1st class letter stamp there is no cover against loss or damage with either of these International sevices.

The Parcelforce Global Express and Global Priority services do offer a fully tracked guaranteed and signed for service with 100% compensation [sim card excluded] for loss or damage of mobile phones.

Global Value offers proof of sending only and if you're not bothered about tracking the item or getting a signature for it when it's delivered this service can offer the same compensation as Global Express and Global Priority.
