£350 million fines. Who's to blame?
If Leighton and Crozier had negotiated a pay deal with the union instead of imposing one with their " take it or leave it " attitude then the stikes would probably have not happened and they would not be facing possible huge fines. They only have themselves to blame. :lfo :cfo

Make you right on that one Guswood.
RM have definatley forced the hand of the CWU, now did they reckon on the members backing the Union or not? Unless they compleatly misjuged the workforce - which seems highly unlikey - they knew IA was coming therefore part of the stratagy, to exactly what end is open to discussion but Privatisation has always been up there as No.1
It`s certain AL & AC have schemes within scemes so if anything does emerge from 4th Sept

privatisation won't happen anytime soon
RM will not be privatised anytime soon. The government refused the share option.
None of the rival operators are interested in buying RM.
The company is likely to run to more like Network Rail. Owning the infrastructure and others using it, such as downstream access.
Leighton, Crozier and other senior mgmt favour a partial privatisation, which follows the model of other companies such as BT, British Gas etc....

The only way for :cfo :lfo to make a serious money out of RM is to privatise it. The government (Brown) wants to sell us off and pocket the money because they're more Tory than most ToriesF0zziebear wrote:RM will not be privatised anytime soon. The government refused the share option.

Re: privatisation won't happen anytime soon
RM is being privatised already. If you take the least labour intensive, most profitable parts of the operation and hand it over to private companies what else could you call it. Of course no rival will buy it they dont need to if we continue to subsidise both their and their customers profits through the downstream access scam. It may however be a more attractive proposition with a castrated union and reduced financial obligations{pension fund}F0zziebear wrote:RM will not be privatised anytime soon. The political reality is that New Labour can never admit openly to this back door privatisation. They never use the word ,if they did,the loss of even a modest number of traditional labour voters in key marginal seats would spell electoral suicide

Fozzies right Partial privatisation is the way the goverment will go, they will sell 49% and keep 51% keeping them the majority shareholder, that way they can make billions and not be seen as selling themselves out to privatisation, thats why since 98 all the bosses that have been in charge of RM including the two numbnuts now have been taking this company on a downward spiral to the bottom. that way when the goverment part privatises it they can make themselves look like they are rescuing the business, Fozzie ive actualy agreed with you, must be a first...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

:lfo :cfo Thats who you look at for this mess and thats what it is as for 51%-49% split other firms will only take on the processing side and only the high profit gear they wont want the delivery side because we are expensive if they did take on the deivery side they would only do the inner city firms not the residential.

Thought for the day.... Dave Ward an Crozier sat, discussing our future. Lets both push for a strike, together we can win concessions from the government. Get real fella's , use the force, the truths out there............. We're the foot soldiers, pawns in a bigger game. Ps, Leighton, come to my walk, you'll never walk again.

Leaders are leaders
I remember seeing the head of the fire brigade union's house with a swimming pool in the home counties. I thought hold on he is supposed to be the leader of the 'workers' and is living it up. Is that right? Can he be as objective as he once was?
Leighton and Crozier to the best of my knowledge joined RM to try and turn it into a successful commercial business. I never felt in any meetings held with them that they genuinely wanted to drive the business into the ground.
The current situation is where a publically owned company is being asked to act as private company. The two don't mix well, simple as.
The £350M fine won't happen. They will get a fine of about 20-40M as RM normally puts aside.
Leighton is clever enough and will write to Gordon and say fine us £350M and I will put the company into bankruptcy, as he did last time and Gordon sorted it out.
There are too many parties involved in the company, and it gets in the way of running the company properly. Part of the reason why I left, as you think you are in charge of your own destiny, then you realise that's boll*x. There are far easier ways of making a living
