Productivity
Here’s one to stir it up. It seems to me that with the words ‘costs’ and ‘throughputs’ being mentioned recently, the blind ‘throwing everything at Sales no matter the consequence’ strategy may about to be curbed a little.
Any chance that someone will do something about individual output so that I, and many others like me, don’t continue carrying those who do everything they can to avoid sitting their ass on the counter and actually doing some work?

Productivity Matrix
Yes and no really. This is the Productivity Matrix. The managers have been told about this in the past week. What it boils down to is more cuts to hours in Crowns but the business has completely sidestepped the CWU on this one so expect them to try and go at your office hours with a scythe!
Whether 'throughput' is logged individually or not, (I agree would be a good thing), we must be wary of this one.
Just how many more hours can they realistically cut? How many staff do you go down to on average now?
If POL decide to force the issue the CWU will be putting in a disagreement under the IRF, so it's business as usual for me until I hear different...

Re: Productivity
Our office could run just as well with less ‘Staff in Post’ i.e. Including Managers and Financial Specialists, if all the non essential activities were curtailed, and the place was properly organised.
As for circumventing the CWU, the most effective way of doing that is not filling vacancies and lapsing absence etc. - but don’t tell anyone I suggested it!

Re: Productivity
No, no, no my friend. They're being a bit more blatant than that. There is a duty revision very soon across the network and they are adhering to what the Productivity Matrix tells them and are sidestepping the CWU and COSA.The BFO wrote:As for circumventing the CWU, the most effective way of doing that is not filling vacancies and lapsing absence etc. - but don’t tell anyone I suggested it!

Re: Productivity
Our manager was supposed to be at a course or meeting all about writing the duties last Thursday but decided to take a day off instead! She also arranged a "life" day last Wednesday. That was our FS's day off and she was only in the office from 2pm until 5.15pm

Re: Productivity
I suspect you and I have both been around long enough to see more methods for calculating staffing levels than most people have had hot dinners. It will be interesting to see what method is used this time.billyhayes wrote: No, no, no my friend. They're being a bit more blatant than that. Anyone remember COCSI, 70% Occupancy, and rationing?

Re: Productivity

Re: Productivity
We are hoping to recruit a second FS. Perhaps this one will look after his laptop better. Current one had his pinched from his car the other night.

Perhaps you need two FS - one to do the sales the other to hold the laptop

The awful truth has now emerged. He has been parked up outside the local Bingo hall offering Over 50’s quotes.billyhayes wrote:Cos he was probably taking note of number plates of passing cars and putting fake quotes for car insurance through...The BFO wrote:Why was it in his car?![]()

Re: Productivity
Ah yes COCSI?! Hmm here we have another "brilliant " new system. Wonder how "effective" this one will be? Not very is my first guess. The BFO wrote:I suspect you and I have both been around long enough to see more methods for calculating staffing levels than most people have had hot dinners. Re: Productivity
Whatever the system, start at the answer and make the figures fit. A bit like we did maths homework after looking at the answer in the back of the book.
Several other thoughts on all this:
Always very wary of individual bonuses/productivity monitoring. What if I spend 15 minutes talking to a customer about HomePhone only for them to walk off saying "I'll ask the wife". Next day they come back to a colleague to take it out. Who should get the bonus? And having spent a lot of time in the back-room, how would you monitor my throughput? I may go all day without serving, but somebody has to order coin and shift the mail bags.
At least we've found out why we've been working short-staffed all year - apparently a £1000 bonus for our two managers for being under budget on staffing
And to agree with what somebody said earlier: if it was my business, the two managers could go (look at sales figures most of day), both FS's (nice lads, but do they earn their money?) and a couple of clerks who just get in the way - I'm sure you know the sort. Come to think of it, I've saved so much money that the useful members of staff that I would keep could have a pay rise and pack in selling
