IOM Post Office remains tight-lipped over Westlife gig

EARLIER this week it was announced that the majority of post office workers in the Communication Workers' Union have voted for strike action over pay.

They have been told, as a statutory board of Tynwald, there is a public sector pay freeze.

But while the organisation said it cannot give pay rises to its staff, this morning it was announced it has had a hand in bringing a boyband to the Isle of Man for a pop concert.

The Manx Telecom Bay Festival said it has 'teamed up' with the Post Office for a performance by Westlife.

isleofman.com has tried to find out exactly what this agreement involves - a valid question we feel in the week that many postal workers have expressed their unhappiness over pay.

We have given the Post Office a chance to explain the situation.

But the only official response we have had from the organisation is a quote from commercial director Lisa Duckworth contained in a press release from the event.

She is quoted as saying: "We are extremely pleased to be involved in bringing such a major iconic band as Westlife to the Isle of Man and to be supporting this high profile event.

"I'm sure it will be a fantastic night."

Whether their staff who are asking for a pay rise agree remains to be seen.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
