How to get a ATM in the wall at Post Office?

I'm in the process of purchasing a Post Office / News Agents and was wondering how we'd go about getting an ATM in the wall with FREE withdrawls.

Currently, there is an ATM in the shop, which is from a 3rd Party company and charges £1.75 a transaction?

You'll have to contact POL, who will get someone from Bank of Ireland to contact you. They'll tell you that there are only a limited number of post office branded atms available, and they aren't installing any new ones at the moment. There are 200 'priority' post offices, which will get them over the course of a year or so (when they restart the rollout). They will have reviewed the branch you're buying some time back and probably decided they didn't want one there - and hence granted a waiver to allow an atm from another company.

I don't mean to sound negative on it - but I've just bought a Post Office and been through the same thing. The nearest free atm to my PO is 7 miles, and there are 3,000 people in the village alone (plus another few thousand in smaller villages around it). They still didn't think an atm would be profitable enough for them there.

There are other atm providers that will give free withdrawals - but you wont earn any commissions on them (and hence it isn't a good idea as debit card users withdrawing over the counter earn you an amount per transaction). You're probably best shopping around for atm providers - some charge as little as £1.25/£1.50, with commissions of up to £1 or so...

Hmmm...when i was on my post office training in January (Still not taken the office over YET though), they mentioned that they're rolling out the ATMs to all Post Offices...maybe this was wrong information!

well I'd love that to be the case as I'd rather have a Post Office ATM...but my trainers/ Bank of Ireland and the helpdesk were pretty concrete on it. Maybe worth you calling the helpdesk and they'll look up the branch your buying and whether Bank of Ireland are interested?

Its my understanding that if POL turn you down for one of their ATM's then you apply for a waiver and source one of your own.

Keep pushing them but retain the existing one. Put a BIG F*** Off sign showing which banks let you do withdrawals through the counter and keep pushing people towards that in the interim. Get a record of cash withdrawals and keep a record of people turned away.

I always withdraw my wages over the Sub Post Office counter.
