A walkout by postal workers has left about 16,000 households in Helsinki without mail deliveries on Friday.
The postal services company Itella says that letters are not being delivered in the areas of Meilahti, Ruskeasuo, Huopalahti, Etelä-Haaga, and Munkkivuori.
The action was taken to protest a bill for new postal legislation which is currently under consideration by Parliament.
The Finnish Post and Logistics Union accuses Minister of Communications Suvi Lindén (Nat. Coalition Party) of going back on her promises.
Itella says that Friday’s mail in the affected areas will be delivered to recipients on Monday. Itella is also looking into the possibility of delivering mail to some of its customers during the weekend.
