( My second week off work due to breathing in other colleges second hand smoke

Could you provide us with more information about the situation where you face second hand smoke? Are you working in one of those 80's style smoking rooms?! Are you sure that your difficulties are actually cause by second hand smoke? Normally you would have to breathing in massive amounts to be having problems with your health!

Oh dear, one mans freedom is another mans restriction! Read in the paper the other day, someone in a block of flats has reported a neighbour for smoking in their own house, as she claims the fumes stink her apartment out! Think common sense all round here is needed,--smokers should stand well away from the building,--now, me-- as soon as I go into work, I sneeze non stop--a combination of dust, other folks perfume, aftershave etc, I walk around all day with a runny nose and sore heard. Also ,like a lot of my collegues have painful blisterd palms, as a result of ink etc in paper. Do I insist all my allergies are taken into account? I know how it affects my breathing, so sorry to doubt, but if you have already been off for two weks, therebye being removed from the 'culprit' maybe it's not all down second hand smoke?

Another problem with attributing second hand smoking at work, as the cause of health problems. Is that unless you're in a very smoky atmosphere (very difficult to achieve outside), it's highly unlikley that it's the ONLY cause. More likley, it's contributing to the effects of other places where you've encountered smokers.

Does that mean that you shouldn't have something done about the unacceptable smoking arrangements at work?
No, of course not. Obviously, the smokers need somewhere to smoke. But if they're far enough away from the non-smokers, then you'll not even be able to smell the smoke. Let alone, be affected by it. There's plenty of RM sites where this is achieved. So why haven't they managed to do it at yours?
Lack of space isn't an excuse. There must be an access road. If there's a pavement, then they could go there. If not, I'm sure somewhere else could be found. They don't have to be on RM premises on their breaks. Although it's not neccessary for them to be too far away. Our smoking area, is approximately 60 yards from the building, and we have no problems at all, with the non-smokers being affected by our smoke.
