Is this a young mans game?

Post by gaffers gimp »

Does any one feel that delivering mail you have to be below the age of THIRTY. I feel that being over FORTY it is.

I'm over fifty and can cope with it but that's probably because I've always been fit and have done less than five years so far.
More significant is the total number of years worked, twenty to thirty and your knees and back won't be much good anymore.

I'm 61 with 16 years in and always on walking delivery. Feeling the strain nowadays - every day out there is a real effort. I can walk 15 miles across the peak district with no problem, but a forced, time sensitive race over 8 miles on concrete is no laughing matter - ask the Royal Marine fitness instructor who did it for a TV program - he thought we were barmy !!!
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

After 26 years the last 10 being on delivery, after being on Processing, thought this was a safer function with job losses afoot now beginning to feel the aches

I'm thinking the new agreement with the trolleys will help us cripples lol.
That's the plan for me anyway. :pray

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I do find things a little easier on delivery since " job and finish " has gone. As there is really no point in taking out overweight bags and rushing around your delivery, especially with some of the heavy flats we get these days. Although some people in my office can't quite grasp this :arrrghhh. I am only 36 and athough i cope fine on delivery now i just hope my knees and back are still ok in another 15 years.

Age is just a number...
You can be 20 and unfit or well.... just bone idle...
OR
you can be 55 and fit as a fiddle...

If your the latter then why not
