Phil Couchman has been named as the new MD of DHL Express UK & Ireland, moving from his role as MD of DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa.
The appointment is the latest in Couchman's 30-year career with DHL and he replaces Ken McCall, who left the business in October.
A DHL Express spokeswoman says McCall left for a role with a company that is not a DHL competitor.
Couchman says: "Coming back to the UK, it is apparent that the market has become increasingly fragmented, while competition and customer demands are driving down costs. This makes DHL's achievement of retaining its position of market leader even more impressive."
He adds: "The current market continues to present challenges for all businesses, of all sizes, but I believe we can continue on this trajectory as long as we are focused on helping our customers grow."
